This morning, I met with beneficiaries of an EU funding call worth €6.8 million, supporting 18 projects to combat antisemitism and anti-Muslim hatred. These projects also help EU Member States implement their national strategies.

Today, we held the 16th annual EU-Israel High Level Seminar to combat antisemitism and foster Jewish life. It is a good opportunity to discuss current threats, challenges & opportunities to counter antisemitism and foster Jewish life. Antisemitism has no place in Europe.

1/ 81 years ago, the darkest chapter in Europe’s history came to an end. Keeping it‘s memory alive is our shared responsibility, and essential to confronting antisemitism and protecting our democratic values.

Tehran’s streets, and cities around the world, echo with the footsteps of Iranian women and men demanding freedom. Freedom to speak, to gather, to travel and above all to live freely. Europe stands fully behind them. We unequivocally condemn the violent repression of these legitimate demonstrations. Those responsible will be remembered on the wrong side of history. We call for the immediate release of all imprisoned demonstrators. We call for the restoration of full internet access. And we call, at last, for fundamental rights to be respected.

Following the Munich Migration Meeting yesterday, I visited the newly re-opened and beautifully restored Synagogue on Reichenbachstrasse. As the only Synagogue in Munich that survived the Nazi era, it is a symbol of Jewish life that was tragically upended, but also of Jewish life today. We are determined to foster Jewish life and ensure that places of worship are protected across the EU.

I strongly condemn the violent attack on a Hassidic Jewish person in Essonne 🇫🇷. The recurrence of such incidents must never make us indifferent. It is a warning & an urgent call for action. #Antisemitism is an attack on our democracy & our shared 🇪🇺 values. #No2Antisemitism

My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the UK’s Jewish community after the violent attack on a synagogue in Manchester. While in Copenhagen, I conveyed my condolences to Prime Minister Keir Starmer. That this attack took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, makes it all the more appalling. We must keep fighting antisemitism in all its forms.

I am deeply concerned by the cancellation of the Münchner Philharmoniker and Lahav Shani at the Ghent Festival. I have asked the EU Coordinator on combating antisemitism to engage with the authorities and the festival organisers to ensure that this cannot happen again. Culture should bring people together and reflect our diversity.

At the Shoah Memorial in Paris yesterday, I paid tribute to the Jewish victims of Nazi barbarism. With its Director Jacques Fredj, we emphasized the vital importance of remembrance, countering Holocaust distortion, and fostering Jewish life in the EU.

„Ein Klima der Angst und Ausgrenzung“ – Neuer Bericht analysiert antisemitische Hochschulproteste in Europa. Unser gemeinsamer Bericht mit @BnaiBrith und @EUJS zeigt: hinter Protesten stehen oft transnationale Netzwerke, strategische Rhetorik & teils Terror-nahe Gruppen.
