The first time I met Olivia Chow she was creating art with her family at a local gallery. In addition to a strong, innovative leader, she is a kind person who knows how to have fun and enjoy all that our beautiful city has to offer. I hope Toronto makes the right choice today.
Many people who live in Toronto actually like Toronto and are proud to live in Toronto and want a Mayor who also seems to enjoy our incredible city while acknowledging ways we can all work together to help make it better. Brad’s negativity isn’t working. #topoli

Thanks @TorontoStar & @mahdishabibinia for this insightful piece clarifying @BradMBradford's & @fordnation's path to water privatization: "What qualifies as 'an agent' could be a private company, a public-private partnership like Metrolinx or the Canada Infrastructure Bank, which facilitates private investment in infrastructure projects." thestar.com/gift-redeem?t=e9… @cupelocal79 @Local416 #keepwaterpublic

Today enjoying the day commemorating the Greek refusal to surrender to the fascists in World War 2. We need more of that spirit today.

I've generally avoided commenting on the municipal race in Toronto, but this claim touches a nerve. Bradford's approach is pretty much the opposite of financially reasonable, taking a tight budgetary situation and dramatically worsening it on both the expenditure & revenue sides.
NEW: Brad Bradford is defending his plan to fund a range of ambitious projects through more debt, saying Wednesday that if he is elected, Toronto will “still be the most financially responsible and conservative government on the continent.” #ToPoli cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/b…

Giant ‘heat storms’ are scorching the Earth. This is the story of the biggest one on record. Supersized heat waves used to be rare. No longer. A Reuters data-driven examination of global temperatures reveals the emergence of what we call ‘heat storms.’ They now swarm the planet, upending life around the world from Texas to Ivory Coast to Poland. To continue calling such sprawling phenomena “heat waves” would be like calling a monsoon a rain shower. reuters.com/investigates/spe…

Conservatives and Liberals are working together to ram Bill C-39 through Parliament. They don’t want to hear from Canadians, and they are afraid to have their legislation scrutinized. New Democrats are standing up for Canadians whose voices are being ignored.

Climate scientists dont talk about the financial house of cards we all live in, why no one escapes being impacted in the next 2 decades. Insurance is just the tip of the iceberg, the world runs on debt, and when the dominos begin to fall they'll all fall. grist.org/politics/decade-of…

The Trump-aligned CEO of an American corporation is dismantling one of Canada’s most important industries and 500 Canadian workers could lose their jobs. If we’re serious about making Canada strong, it’s time to take back control of our economy and nationalize Stelco.

Why is a teachers’ union talking about housing? Because when families cannot afford stable housing, children bring that precarity into their classrooms, affecting their ability to learn. When educators cannot afford to live where they teach, they are pushed farther away from their school communities. And when governments make major decisions about housing, public land, and our neighbourhoods, those decisions directly affect our schools. Every day, our 10,000 members see something that can no longer be ignored: the housing crisis has become an education issue. We cannot talk about quality public education without talking about quality, affordable housing. Nor can we overlook how a child’s ability to learn is impacted if their basic needs, including access to nutritious food, are not met. That is why the Elementary Teachers of Toronto is calling for educators to have a meaningful voice in Toronto’s decisions about housing, student well-being, and public lands, particularly where public schools are involved.
