I didn't realize it at the time, but what happened on September 11th would completely change the trajectory of my life. Very quickly, America was a nation at war. I was angry about us being attacked, and I wanted to do my part. I wanted to fight back. I was unwilling to let other people go and fight for me. I grew up in a working class family, and I wasn't going to have other working class kids go and bear the burden on my behalf. I was a senior in college on 9/11. I had just started the last year of my ROTC. I had a National Guard contract, so I was going to be commissioned in the National Guard as an officer. After the September 11th attacks, I went to my ROTC unit commander and asked for a transition to an active duty contract. Less than a year later, I was an infantry officer going through all the training and getting ready to go to war. I would deploy three times to the Middle East, and end up completing three combat tours, first in Iraq as a paratrooper, and then in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger. Later, my views changed about what “fighting back” actually looks like, and how to do that the right way versus the wrong way. But at the time, that's what it meant to me. My time in the military still guides my belief in service today. Now, as a Member of Congress, I have a duty and obligation to keep our nation safe and protect our servicemembers. I take my oath seriously and believe there is no higher calling than service to one’s country. wapo.st/4xE1GCl

My friend @ChrisMurphyCT is a fighter. I’m sad to see this news, but glad he’s getting medical treatment. Hopeful he’s on his way to a full recovery.
Chris Murphy had a stroke and was hospitalized yesterday. He is awake and alert, according to his chief of staff. Full statement from Allison Herwitt:

March: The war in Iran will end “soon.” October: The war in Iran will end “soon.” Americans deserve better than more endless war & more empty promises from Donald Trump.

This Halloween, candy and costumes are more expensive. Reckless tariffs & endless wars have jacked up prices.

We are now in week 35 of Trump’s “2 to 3 week” war with Iran.
🚨BREAKING: President Trump suggests conflict with Iran will be over soon: "I think 2-3 weeks".

Pete Hegseth treats America's national security like his side hustle. While he sends our troops to fight Trump's forever wars, he’s busy auditioning for his next job. He's unfit to lead and needs to be fired.

Costs are not going up, not down, under Trump. That’s not a “positive” thing, as the President’s top economic advisor claims. As working people struggle to get by, Republicans give more tax breaks to the wealthy. It's wrong.
Hassett on inflation trending up, and next to a graphic showing gas at $4.22 a gallon: "The inflation story is a positive one"

One more example of the President being completely out of touch. Pete Hegseth is failing at his job. He’s politicized our military, put our servicemembers in danger by recklessly sharing classified info, and started new forever wars. He's got to go.
Trump on Hegseth: Pete Hegseth is doing a great job. He is a great warrior. I think he is the best in his job in many years, and a lot of people agree with that.

The silence from Republicans in Congress is deafening. They don’t have the courage to stand up to the President, even though his tariffs and wars are hurting Americans.

Dolores Huerta was a giant. She never stopped fighting for working people, and she made our nation better for it. It’s on all of us to carry on her fight, together. Sí, se puede.

Trump is rolling out the red carpet for losing wannabe autocrats, while at the same time shutting the door on vulnerable families fleeing violence and persecution. It’s pure hypocrisy and a complete moral failure.

Wars are raging. Americans can’t afford to live. Yet Trump is obsessing about men’s asses. He’d rather talk about ANYTHING other than high gas prices he caused.
Trump on Husted: He’s a fine man. I like men, but I've never been particularly attracted. I was studying him. I studied his ass. I hurt my hand. I made the mistake of studying his anatomy.

Tens of billions of dollars down the drain. Your taxpayer dollars spent on new forever wars—not nicer schools, better roads, or cheaper housing.

Fear is contagious, but so is courage. Cassidy Hutchinson bravely testified under oath about the January 6th insurrection. And today’s grand jury showed true courage in rejecting Trump’s abuses of power. Everyday citizens are standing up and holding this reckless President accountable.
Breaking news: A grand jury rejected the DOJ’s attempt to indict former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson for the account she gave lawmakers of President Trump’s actions during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to people familiar with the matter. wapo.st/4jFAkbz

This Administration is shamefully selling out our allies & propping up our adversaries. It’s a disgrace. No more sanctions relief for Russia.

A single unelected tech oligarch shouldn’t be able to make life-and-death decisions about America’s national security.
After Elon Musk posted on X saying he had throttled Ukraine’s use of Starlink after it was used for offensive attacks, House Armed Services Committee member Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) says the billionaire’s ability to wield that power is “beyond disturbing to me.” “It cannot and should not be the case that a tech oligarch, a private citizen, who has that much control over our national security, who is unaccountable, who is unelected, with zero transparency, is making life and death decisions on the battlefield in systems that our service members and our partners and allies rely upon,” he adds.

Trump bragged about how his friends in Big Oil are “making a freaking fortune” off his Iran war. The President’s profiting, too. While you pay sky-high prices at the pump, he’s trading energy stocks & making millions.
FIRST ON CBS: As President Trump boasts about how much money the U.S. oil and gas industry is making from the war with Iran, the president's personal holdings in oil and gas are now worth between $22.5 million and $81.6 million, compared with $12.6 million to $46 million at the end of 2025, according to a new report by Democrats on the Congressional Joint Economic Committee. cbsn.ws/47IN9un
