Harvest is underway on our Soil CRC trials.
Yesterday the plot header worked through Organic based nitrogen fertiliser demonstration site, which compares biochar with urea as a nitrogen source. The yield data will show how the two perform in our lower-rainfall mixed farming systems.
It will be very interesting to see how the biochar performs in comparison with the urea.
This work has been supported by the Cooperative Research Centre for High Performance Soils, whose activities are funded by the Australian Government's Cooperative Research Centres Program.

Terry Rose (@SoilCRC Project Leader, @SCU_Australia) shares an update from the long-term Burramine trial site, where researchers are investigating how summer cover cropping and diverse plant species influence soil health and crop performance. The trial compares different summer cover crop treatments, including wheat and vetch, and examines how these approaches may help improve soil function and build resilience to dry conditions.
