Sustainability in 2026 is a story of resilience — how stakeholders balance urgent and sometimes competing priorities in the face of disruption, uncertainty and rapid change. War in the Middle East, growing AI-driven power demands and increasingly frequent and severe extreme weather events are dramatically reshaping the balancing act between energy security, energy affordability and energy sustainability. In 2026, it is increasingly clear that the three parts of this energy trilemma can work in tandem. Read the full report >> okt.to/SHYPuk

S&P Global retweeted
Today we are announcing that S&P Global has entered an agreement to acquire OpenZeppelin. Onchain finance is growing from an emerging market into core financial infrastructure, and the standards and rails our team and community built are becoming the rails of global finance. OpenZeppelin smart contracts facilitated over $37 trillion in value transferred, with the vast majority of the largest DeFi protocols, blockchain networks, stablecoins and tokenized funds relying on them. With S&P Global, we expect to accelerate the impact of onchain finance, backed by more than a century of trust in global markets, benchmarks, and risk frameworks. To our clients and to all the users of OpenZeppelin open source tools: • OpenZeppelin Contracts and all our open source applications and tools remain open source, free, and publicly maintained on GitHub. Building open source standards stays a core priority. • Audits, engineering work, and ecosystem programs continue with the same team, brand, quality, and customer experience, with what will be the added benefit of S&P Global's research capacity, market data, and institutional reach. For the last decade, OpenZeppelin has set the security standard for onchain finance. Today begins a new chapter for that mission, together with one of the most trusted names in global markets. China's electric vehicle penetration could reach 75%-80% by 2030, up from more than 60% currently, accelerating transport fuel displacement and forcing refiners to increasingly rely on capacity rationalization, petrochemical integration and exports, Fairy Wang, vice president of Sinopec's Economics & Development Research Institute, said at APPEC on Sept. 10. Wang said China has already surpassed the government's 2035 target of 50% EV penetration, reaching the milestone about a decade early. China's EV penetration rate reached a record high in August, with EVs accounting for 60.6% of new vehicle sales. Read the full insights from @EnergySPG: okt.to/aeYp0K

In this episode of The Decisive, Kristen Hallam speaks with Ken Wattret, Vice President of Global Economics at @SPGMarketIntel, who answers frequently asked questions shaping the macroeconomic outlook: why sovereign yields have been rising, whether AI-driven productivity gains could lower inflation and policy rates, and what a weaker US dollar could mean for the global economy. This conversation was recorded in May 2026, and the questions are still top of mind today. Listen to the latest The Decisive podcast episode: okt.to/xWis4P

From @SPGMarketIntel: The number of active satellites in orbit jumped over 17 times from 2010 to nearly 18,000 devices by July 2026, driven mostly by the Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) Starlink constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) internet satellites, has created a promise of fast, hassle-free broadband internet everywhere, while at the same time attracting a crescendo of opposition from the academic and space communities, especially as projections point to over 100,000 objects orbiting the planet in the medium term. The energy industry is moving beyond artificial intelligence pilots and proof-of-concept projects as companies seek to integrate AI into daily workflows and deliver measurable business value, although significant challenges remain, speakers at APPEC said Sept. 10. Rather than treating AI as a stand-alone innovation project, organizations are increasingly focused on applying the technology to practical challenges across trading, risk management, operations and decision-making. The breakdown of trade talks and tariff escalation between the U.S. and Canada—with the implementation of Canada’s countertariffs on some U.S. goods starting this week—mark a significant deepening of tensions between the two closely-linked economies that could weigh on growth and credit conditions, particularly in Canada. We forecast that the tariffs, if sustained, could shave 0.2-0.5 percentage point (ppt) off Canada’s GDP growth in the next four quarters and add 0.2-0.3 ppt to inflation. The macro effects on the U.S. economy of Canada’s retaliatory tariffs will likely be marginal. Read more with @SPGlobalRatings: okt.to/7envUb

The future of AI isn't about whether you build or buy agents. It's about whether you can trust them to deliver outcomes. Artificial intelligence is rapidly moving from experimentation to enterprise adoption. Across financial services, organizations are exploring how AI agents can improve productivity, accelerate decision-making and help teams navigate growing operational complexity. S&P Global is deepening its commitment to digital assets.   Through S&P Global Ventures, we've led a strategic investment in Kaiko's Series B extension — the global independent leader in digital asset market data, indices, and data infrastructure — building on an already close strategic alliance.   This builds on real momentum between our two organizations: - The first tokenized major financial benchmark (iBoxx U.S. Treasuries Index, on-chain with Kaiko). - The new S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices, a co-branded suite for 24/7 digital asset markets. - Kaiko's growing global footprint, now supporting 250+ financial institutions and regulators worldwide.   As on-chain markets mature, trusted data and benchmarks are becoming the connective tissue between traditional and decentralized finance — and we're investing to help build that bridge.   Read more in our press release: okt.to/fWwJ6E

From @SPGMarketIntel: August, according to PMI survey data, with a jump in service sector payrolls accompanied by a further revival of factory jobs. The improvement was a reflection of the need to meet rising backlogs of work, with companies boosting productive capacity to meet customer demand amid an easing of corporate uncertainty. Especially noteworthy jobs growth was reported in India and the US, but European and mainland China’s hiring trends have also improved in recent months. By sector, the labour market improvement is being led by financial services and technology firms. Explore the latest insights: okt.to/YkBbTD

This week, members of the S&P Global community gathered to reflect on and commemorate the events of September 11, 2001. As we observe the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we honor the memory of those who lost their lives, recognize the courage of the first responders who answered the call, and acknowledge the lasting impact of that day.  Twenty-five years later, we pause in remembrance. #NeverForget
