Last Saturday, the National Council of Negro Women gathered at the King Center’s Freedom Hall Plaza for the ‘Get Out The Vote’ rally, led by Rev. Shavon L. Arline-Bradley of the NCNW. The rally marked another vital step in our collective work to inspire civic action and drive voter participation across Georgia and key battleground states. Early voting is ending soon, and Election Day is November 3rd. Make your voice heard. Get out and vote! #GoVote #VotersRights #ElectionDay #TheKingCenter #MLK

Last week, The King Center team had the privilege of welcoming leaders from the Atlanta Dream, the Golden State Valkyries, and the WNBA to our campus. During their visit, we guided our guests on a tour of our historic grounds and shared the meaningful work taking place across our organization. The King Center mourns the loss of labor rights leader and activist, Dolores Huerta. Dolores co-founded the United Farm Workers, coined the anthem of hope “¡Sí, se puede!”, and spent more than seven decades organizing at the intersections of labor, civil rights, gender equality, and immigrant justice. She showed the world that field workers, women, and marginalized communities hold the collective power to demand dignity and win. Dolores Huerta and our founder, Coretta Scott King, shared an alliance rooted in the intersection of labor rights, racial equality, and women’s leadership. They organized together in Salinas, California, during the 1970 farmworker strikes, and stood shoulder to shoulder in Washington defending antipoverty initiatives. We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to her family, loved ones, and the generations of organizers whose paths were paved by her sacrifice. #DoloresHuerta #nonviolence #SiSePuede #TheKingCenter

We are less than a week away from the midterm elections, and in many communities, early voting has already begun. Generations before us marched, organized, and sacrificed so that every citizen would have an equal say at the ballot box. When efforts to suppress the ballot increase, it only underscores how much power we hold when we show up together. Honor the legacy. Exercise your right. Make your plan to vote today. #TheKingCenter #Vote #VotingRights #MLK #YourVoteIsYourVoice

Be a listener. Be Love. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. taught us that true nonviolence requires understanding, goodwill, and a desire for reconciliation. Listening is a vital key to nonviolence because it disarms hostility, honors the human dignity of others, and builds mutual respect. Choose empathy. Choose understanding. Take the Be LOVE pledge and commit to leading with love and nonviolence in your daily actions at: thekingcenter.org/belove/ #BeLove #BelovedCommunity #Nonviolence #MLK #TheKingCenter

The death of 1-year old Kohen Wiley is a tragedy that demands truth and accountability. An officer opened fire into a vehicle outside a Mississippi Walmart after accusing Kohen's mother of shoplifting, even though receipts proved she legally purchased the diapers. Kohen Wiley was inside the vehicle when he was fatally shot by police officer. The decision by state authorities to decline pressing charges fails to honor the standard of justice every family deserves. The King Center calls for a thorough review and full justice for Kohen and his family. #JusticeForKohenWiley #TheKingCenter #EqualJustice #Accountability #BeLove

Mónica shares insights on listening to communities, building collective power, finding courage in the face of opposition, and creating meaningful change without losing sight of the people at the center of the work. “She [Rosa Parks] was anchored to that seat by the accumulated indignities of days gone by and the boundless aspirations of generations yet unborn. She was a victim of both the forces of history and the forces of destiny.” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in “Stride Toward Freedom” On the anniversary of her passing, we honor the life and legacy of Rosa Parks. Her courageous act of quiet defiance on a Montgomery bus ignited a spark that transformed a nation and moved the Civil Rights Movement forward. Let us continue her unfinished work and stand firm in the daily pursuit of equality. #RosaParks #MLK #CivilRightsMovement #MontgomeryBoycott #TheKingCenter

More than 1.2 million children in the United States have lost access to SNAP benefits since last July. Withholding food from children is violence. Poverty itself is violence. Poverty is one of the clearest manifestations of the Triple Evil of extreme materialism, directly harming children and threatening their well being. To confront and end poverty, we must act with truth, compassion, and a commitment to nonviolent strategy. Our Nonviolence365® Training equips individuals with the tools to help build a more compassionate world free from the Triple Evils, including poverty. Your donation helps us continue equipping individuals, communities, and leaders around the world with the tools to confront and end poverty. Our children deserve three meals a day. Together, we can create a world where no child goes hungry. Text MLKGIVE to 44321 to donate or go here thekingcenter.org/donate-now… #EndPoverty #PovertyIsViolence #Nonviolence #MLK #TheKingCenter

More than 150 people have been killed in drone attacks in Sudan’s West Kordofan and Khartoum. At least 13 of those deaths were children. This is unacceptable. #FreeSudan
