Looking forward to attending my first Bread&Net and joining my dear colleagues to discuss how online polarization and hostile narratives circulating in social media reflect and fuel conflict, as well as the importance of public legal and digital literacy.
Replying to @TimepDC
⭐ On Thursday, Oct 15, TIMEP’s @michatobia will moderate a panel with @salma_daoudi1, @KassemMnejja, and @safieddine00, examining how online hate speech, mis and disinformation have fueled polarization across MENA, particularly during periods of conflict and political upheaval.

Egypt arrested an entire independent newsroom simply for doing their jobs.
Journalism is not a crime, and this attack on press freedom cannot stand. The six Matsadaash journalists must be released immediately.

“The test of US policy in Lebanon concerns whether the army is able to protect the country, whether those blocking financial recovery face consequences, and whether the state is able to provide services without citizens having to turn to their sectarian patrons,” @sami_halabi.
“The US has cut its aid to Syria at this extremely momentous moment, thinking that these broader MoUs are going to somehow fill this gap and that just … doesn’t actually work, especially in a post-conflict economy,” stresses @NatashaHallDC.
“How I would urge the admin to move forward on Sudan boils down to one word: leverage. The US hasn’t yet gone to the core dynamics, which is that three US partners, reliant on US assistance and weapons, are also the main backers of the warring parties in Sudan,” -John Chappell.
“The US administration is still looking at Syria through the lens of counterterrorism and Syria's relationship with its neighbors. But this is really the time to meet the moment inside Syria to avoid greater instability in the future,” emphasizes @NatashaHallDC.
