Slow and steady wins the race.
Fourteen years after she launched her business, Sandra Letio, a longtime Enterprise Uganda client, has won the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Women in Business Awards 2026.
Ms Letio, CEO of Pelere Group, emerged first amongst 52 women nominated across the globe. This international award celebrates the contributions of inspiring women entrepreneurs to implementing the Global Goals.
A beneficiary of both our Business and Enterprise Start-up Tool (BEST) and the Empretec Entrepreneurship Training (ETW), Ms Letio started a cosmetics agribusiness with only UGX 30,000. This grew into an enterprise that connects more than 5,000 smallholder farmers to markets while creating employment and opportunities across Uganda’s shea and oilseed value chains.
Start today, for you never know what tomorrow holds.

It was an honour to attend the World Investment Forum in Doha, Qatar, this week as part of the AfCFTA Secretariat.
The Forum, organised by @UNCTAD, is the leading global platform for investment and development. This year it brought together Heads of Government, Ministers, CEOs and investors under the theme "Investing in the Future".
H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the @AfCFTA, delivered Africa's message. Global investment is becoming more concentrated, and investors increasingly choose locations that offer scale, reliable infrastructure, skills, technology and predictable rules. Africa's answer is to build those conditions together and link investment to productive capacity.
The AfCFTA creates a single market of 1.4 billion people with a combined GDP of about US$3.4 trillion. As supply chains shift, that market gives investors a stronger reason to produce in Africa and sell across borders.
Making this work depends on implementation, and that work is already underway across the continent. It means applying the agreed tariff preferences, completing customs and regulatory procedures, removing non-tariff barriers, and making it possible for firms to source their inputs within the region.
Throughout the Forum, the Secretariat took part in several sessions, including the Ministerial Roundtable and a session on critical minerals. It also held a number of bilateral meetings, notably with the Prime Minister of #Lesotho.
