‘Decentralised Digital Identity' isn't just a catchy phrase. It's all about applying it to media users or a pro publishing company! While we might not have all the answers just yet with @djtomchak, we've got a solid base of ideas to work our magic. 👇

The SEC's staff spelled out yesterday what it takes for a crypto network to have no one in charge. Three new FAQ answers say a "central party" is anyone with unilateral power to let users in or keep them out, change how upgrades get voted, pick who validates, rewrite the code or reverse transactions.
Token holders voting through a DAO or a foundation generally don't count, as long as they aren't affiliated and haven't agreed to act together.
It's staff guidance with no legal force, and it arrives while market structure law is still stuck in Congress. I think it's the right test, because it looks at what someone can actually do on the network rather than at what the project's website says.

Nine pages. 18 years ago today.
Satoshi posted them to a cryptography mailing list and money has not been the same since.
In 2012 I was going to bitcoin meetups in Phoenix. Today BlackRock's ETF alone holds 814,873 BTC.
Wall Street came to bitcoin. Not the other way round.
Uber bought a tokenized Franklin Templeton money market fund on a Thursday, paid with HSBC tokenized deposits, and sold it on Sunday. Per Bloomberg that got it about a day and a half more yield than exiting on Friday like usual. Settled on Canton, delivery versus payment. HSBC says it's now open to other US clients. Small trade, but it's a big company using tokenized cash for something treasurers actually care about, the weekend!

We keep looking for the smartest agent, when the real breakthrough might be getting thousands of them to work together.
Finance figured this out a long time ago. The biggest value wasn’t always in the smartest trader, but in the infrastructure connecting everyone.
AI might be heading in the same direction. 🤔

Same door as Bybit last year. A developer's machine, not the cryptography. Binance says no private key leaked. 🤔

Twelve years ago I was going to bitcoin meetups in rooms with a dozen people and bad coffee. Yesterday I was at the Madrid Stock Exchange moderating a panel on the infrastructure institutions need to tokenize, settle and move money onchain. Francisco Maroto of @bbva, Mónica Ramírez de Arellano of @Anchorage and Carlos Arena of @Optimism all landed in the same place. In two to five years this will be part of the financial rails and most people won't even notice. Thank you @mmerge_io for having us.
BlackRock is coming to the yen stablecoin market. The world's largest asset manager signed an MOU with SBI and Startale to explore linking its tokenized money market funds with JPYSC, Japan's first trust bank issued yen stablecoin. Nothing is live yet, but this is how onchain finance gets built. Stablecoins move the cash, tokenized funds put it to work, and the big players want both pieces.

A full WSJ page this weekend told CEOs to keep their stock off tokenized venues. 22 companies have already objected at OKX and ICE, where each token carries the same dividends and votes. Here... the real question is who picks the ledger your shares live on, and the SEC gave that pen to the issuer.

Aviva just put its largest fund on the XRP Ledger. A £22bn sterling money market fund now has a tokenised share class, and the first big cheque in it is £50m of Aviva's own money. That's how new rails start. The real test is the first treasurer who moves cash in because it can settle at 3am on a Sunday.

CZ says AI agents won't use bank accounts. They'll use crypto. Hmm, on the rail he is likely right.
The harder part is the mandate. Who sent the agent, what it may spend, who answers when it gets it wrong.

The won is the second most traded currency in crypto after the dollar. Korea still has no legal basis to issue a won stablecoin.
The demand came first, I saw that at KBW!

21 issuances, about €78m, mostly debt. That is Spain's DLT primary market so far.
Next comes the secondary market. The CNMV has authorised Securitize's trading and settlement system under the EU Pilot Regime. Four more platforms are waiting.

Two years of panels on stablecoins vs tokenized deposits. Then EY asks 521 companies and banks. Nearly half say they want both.
Treasurers never joined the debate. They just had suppliers to pay. Turns out the killer use case is getting paid on Tuesday.

Volume is the easy part to count. Turning it into pesos is harder. Since 13 October people in Mexico can buy Western Union's dollar stablecoin, USDPT, with pesos on Bitso. Anchorage Digital Bank issues it, on Solana. Trillions move onchain. The last mile still runs through Western Union's agents.

The parallel goes further than it looks. The 1863 Act created the OCC, the same office that wrote this week's rule. It also made national banks buy US bonds to back their notes. GENIUS asks stablecoin issuers to hold cash and short Treasury bills. New money, old collateral.

The GENIUS Act marks a watershed moment in American finance, further cementing the United States as the crypto capital of the world. Just as President Abraham Lincoln’s National Currency Act of 1863 established a national framework for bank-issued currency, the GENIUS Act establishes a federal framework for payment stablecoins in the digital age.
The @USOCC's final rule carries that landmark legislation forward, providing a clear, practical foundation for private-sector innovation, competition, and American leadership in digital assets.
Tokenized deposits reach the retail app.
SoFi launched SOFIE today. Each token is $1 held at SoFi Bank, paying 4.40% and FDIC insured.

HSBC used tokenized deposits to buy Franklin Templeton's tokenized money market fund, a first for the bank, on Ant International's WhaleRTP. Idle cash can earn and come back at any hour. Banks lived off cutoff times. fintechnews.sg/139403/blockc…
