In 1963, the lower 48 had just 417 nesting pairs of bald eagles.
Then came the DDT ban, the Endangered Species Act, and decades of work by scientists, landowners, and local volunteers. Today, there are tens of thousands of nesting pairs, and the species was delisted in 2007.

It's National Mule Day! Weโre grateful for the hardworking mules that support the Forest Service. These sure-footed partners haul gear, assist fire crews, & help preserve true wilderness experiences where modern technology canโt reach. Thank you to every mule and handler!

Sometimes you just have to take the acorn and run!
Acorns and other hard mast are an important fall food source for wildlife across Tennessee. Packed with energy, they help wildlife like squirrels, deer, and turkey prepare for the colder months ahead.

Fall is officially here, although Tennessee apparently missed the memo. โ๏ธ๐
The cooler mornings may be taking their time, but the season still brings plenty of changes to notice: later sunrises, migrating birds, shorter days, and eventually, those fall colors.

The pawpaw is North America's largest native fruit, custardy flesh tasting like mango crossed with banana, but it ripens so fast it turns within days, nearly impossible for stores to ship or stock.
George Washington reportedly ate them chilled at Mount Vernon, and Lewis and Clark leaned on pawpaws to survive when their food ran out in 1806.
Foragers guard patch locations like treasure maps, and pawpaw festivals sell out within hours.
