You chose to trust a third-party provider, and your customers are the ones paying the price. Outsourcing a service doesn’t outsource responsibility. If your partners handle customer data, securing that data is still your responsibility.
Calling it a third-party security incident doesn’t change the reality: customer data was exposed. Whether the breach happened within Coinbase or through a vendor is irrelevant to the people whose information is now at risk.
Instead of pushing endless marketing narratives about bringing the financial system onchain, how about upgrading the security infrastructure protecting your customers?
The future is onchain. But what good is a decentralized financial system if the infrastructure surrounding it still puts users’ data at risk?
It should be about building an internet where users have control over their data, security isn’t an afterthought, and trust doesn’t depend on third parties.

Amplitude, an analytics vendor, experienced a security incident which impacted a small subset of Coinbase customer contact data, among other Amplitude customers.
We’ve found no evidence of unauthorized access to Coinbase systems, and customer funds were not impacted.
We are notifying impacted customers and regulatory agencies in accordance with our legal obligations.
