We’re sharing how our biology research team worked with Claude to map the first 3D structure of a vault particle from bacterial life. Vault particles are a longstanding mystery. They are barrel-shaped objects, among the largest protein structures found in our cells. They were first discovered by Leonard Rome and Nancy Kedersha in 1986, but their function remains unknown. With Claude, we’ve found results that might bring us closer to solving that mystery. Until now, vaults were only known in the cells of complex things like animals and plants. We have shown that similar proteins from bacteria (and the viruses that infect them) can also assemble into vaults. Finding the structures in these simpler forms of life may make it easier to investigate their function in our own cells. For our life sciences team, the project was also a demonstration of the potential (and the limitations) of using AI to accelerate science. In our full piece, we discuss how Claude was able to dramatically speed up some stages—manually determining the vault particle’s structure would have taken weeks to months of painstaking work, but here it took days. We also discuss how Claude made some simple mistakes along the way, and how we collaborated with our machine learning researchers to address them. Read more: anthropic.com/research/inves…

The more you live the more you realize you don’t understand the world!

What a legend, you will be missed!
In my 20’s, I used to work on Wall Street. People my age now (45) said they were working 70, 80, 90 hours a week for their families…but all their families actually wanted was their presence. They didn’t understand why their families resented how much they worked when they lived in a nice house, and their kids went to private schools. It was just the world we all lived in. We knew nothing else. I decided early in my startup journey that wasn’t going to be me. My co-founders and I have always had a policy of quitting at 5 or 5:30. By that, I mean: > Shut off my laptop > No more work talk > Go home to my family Frequently I’m out even earlier - 3-5, depending on whether I want to do something with the kids. I rarely travel for work and don’t entertain for work. My family life gives me energy for my work. My work gives me energy for my family life. I'm trying to stay not burnt out and excited about this for several decades. Can every founder choose this? Maybe not everybody, but more people have the choice than realize they do. There is great reward that comes from designing a business around the life you want.

The alleged $5.6B Binance exploit is a massive security failure. What potentially happened: Attacker gained access to Binance’s signing infrastructure. Used EIP-7702 to delegate wallet control to malicious code. Automated treasury systems reportedly refilled compromised wallets. If confirmed, this wasn’t just a smart contract exploit. It was a failure of key security, monitoring, and treasury controls. A centralized exchange managing billions should never allow one compromised signing path to trigger a disaster of this scale.

If compromising a backend can lead to billions in withdrawals, your security architecture has fundamentally failed.

AI can potentially over-engineer and increase cost of maintenance building unnecessary features or covering non-critical edge cases. The code is perfect but is the complexity worth it?

OpenAI and Anthropic should utilize their AI agents to find bugs in all modern software systems and programming languages and patch them immediately.

Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Money exists because what we need requires human labor; once we are not dependent on other humans for goods and services, you no longer need money.
