Super Agent Jorge Mendes on how @joaofelix70 actually ended up at Benfica:
💬 "João Félix was at FC Porto. Meanwhile, Benfica got interested in his brother and signed him. Naturally, the father didn't want one son at Porto and the other at Benfica, so they brought João Félix along almost as a favor."
The rest is history!

Injury Concern for Richard Ríos 🚨
On-loan Benfica midfielder Richard Ríos was forced off in tears just 8 minutes into Al Ittihad’s 1-1 draw with Abha today.
He was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches and is now a major doubt for Colombia’s upcoming international games.

This guy was dubbed "the new Pelé" back in 2005 by Americans online when he was only 15. He was also a wonderkid in FIFA and FM games. I was so happy when he signed for Benfica in 2007, expecting him to be the next big thing. Then he got loaned to 20 different clubs...
Freddy Adu reflects on his time at Benfica and turning down Man Utd in 2007:
- "When I arrived at Benfica, I realized how massive the club was. But going through 3 managers in my first season created so much instability—it was deeply disturbing for my first year in Europe."
- On choosing Benfica over Man Utd: "My agent and advisers felt Benfica was the best launching pad for my development."
- On his biggest career regret: "Accepting the loan to Monaco was a mistake. If I had stayed at Benfica and kept working like Di María, my career path would’ve been completely different. It just snowballed from there."

Benfica have released a statement in regards to Jhon Duran’s red card at Santa Clara:
“The indignation expressed by Sport Lisboa e Benfica at the end of the Santa Clara game because of the expulsion of Jhon Durán is fully confirmed given the justification presented by referee Cláudio Pereira.
In the report, however made public by the media, the referee states that Durán was provoked and responded with imperceptible words, concluding Cláudio Pereira that these words helped to propagate the generalized conflict.
How can the referee attribute this effect to words he claims not to have understood? And how can you support this version when the images do not show any aggressiveness or provocative gesture on the part of the Benfica player?
We are facing another episode of extraordinary refereeing creativity, which requires a rigorous investigation. After the case of Gustavo Correia, in Famalicão, in which it was shown that the report did not correspond to the facts - and the referee deliberately lies - Benfica will not accept that a new report manifestly contradicted by reality is treated with complacency. This new falsehood must be investigated and sanctioned with the seriousness it deserves.
Sport Lisboa e Benfica demands that the Disciplinary Council analyze this case rigorously and not whistle to the side again, sanctioning this unjustifiable conduct.
It also requires that the Arbitration Council not transform the repetition of serious errors into a prize through successive nominations for First League games, as has happened with Gustavo Correia.
The lie to the detriment of Benfica cannot continue to be a factor of impunity - nor of promotion - in Portuguese football.”
