"The Polish Right—thoroughly pro-Russian and anti-European—is just as repulsive as other contemporary European right-wing movements (perhaps with the exception of Germany’s Merz). The President of the Republic of Poland, a pro-Putin, quasi-fascist figure, has refused to allow three constitutional judges—appointed by Parliament with the support of the pro-European liberal-democrats and socialists currently in government—to take their seats on the Constitutional Court in Warsaw. It is high time to make this perfectly clear to our own local brand of right-wingers. I have come across some deranged and misleading posts here on Facebook, in which certain individuals claim that Prime Minister Tusk—in my view, the best politician in the entire EU today—has carried out a 'coup d'état' by ensuring the three judges took their places on the country’s supreme legal body, even without the President’s consent. You are wrong, my dear friends: the one who attempted a coup was President Nawrocki—a thoroughly unpleasant individual: a nationalist, a conservative, an anti-European, and a pro-Russian sympathizer. Tusk has simply restored democracy. Yet, his actions have not only provoked the rabid foaming-at-the-mouth of the Right, but are also viewed as 'embarrassing' by the naive, politically correct types on the Left. Oh, for heaven’s sake—give me a break! Tusk is a genuine fighter for our Europe, and he’s certainly not the type to just bend over and take it for the sake of playing the martyr. That’s all there is to it. Long live democratic Poland! Long live Prime Minister Tusk! Long live a Poland that chooses to be part of Europe. As for the rest—to hell with it! I only wish we had politicians like Tusk here, too."
