🚨 | Lewis Hamilton via Instagram: “Our own weekend was one full of challenges. We had a lot thrown at us but our mechanics and engineers did an incredible job. We’ve grown so much together this year, and that progress has taken a huge effort from everyone on the track and back at the factory. That’s why losing what could’ve been a win hurts so much. We need to grasp every opportunity we have, so it’s incredibly frustrating, and I can’t pretend otherwise.”
“I know what goes into giving us that opportunity. The standard the team holds itself to, the standard I hold myself to, the standard the fans expect. Everyone deserves to see us at our best and win. We’re all here to race and want to win. Battling is necessary, but when that battle costs the team, we have to be honest about it and learn from it. We can push each other to the limit and still honour the responsibility to everyone who put us on that track.”
“I’ll keep giving everything I have. My belief in this team hasn’t changed and neither has my responsibility to help us get this right. Stick with us. I’m only just getting started with this team, and we have so much more to come.”

Charles : “The penalty? The penalty was clearly deserved. Now, whether it should be five or ten seconds, that's something we need to look at and understand what the stewards took into consideration. We both missed the corner. Clearly, we both braked too late. Then I couldn't make the corner, so I cut it. My initial intention was to give the position back to Lewis, but unfortunately, Max was behind us and then came between the two of us. I asked about it on the radio, but clearly, we felt it wasn't clear enough for me to drop back to third, so we stayed in the lead.”

a dog can be replaced, but can a father and a best friend also be replaced?
Lewis : « Before I joined this team, when I was in Mercedes, I watched and witnessed the back-and-forth between Charles and Carlos. Several races where they were battling so much that the person ahead just pulled away, and they had the pace to actually win the race.
It’s one thing when that's happening in fourth and fifth as opposed to first and second, and you lose the win. That's significant. The guy is 28 years old, so I don't think it's an age thing. I think it's a mentality thing. It's like do or die. Like, either I win, or none of us do, and it shouldn't be that. It should be, us having got that one-two, which is still a good feeling.
At Silverstone, I could have gone all kamikaze on him and taken him off and lost us the the win, but instead a one-two was there, and I think we got a one-two, or was it a one-three? I'm happy for the team to have experienced that. I'm hopeful we'll work towards a better place in the future. »

Q-You said it deserved penalty. Lewis was pretty unhappy over the radio. So how do you move forward from this one as a team?
"Well, I'll speak with Lewis. I think we both didn't make the corner. I don't know if Lewis's point was for me to get P3, but at least having a Red Bull second, I felt it was worth it to kind of keep the position and see what happens. That's what I did. I could be also unhappy with how much he push me off the track out of turn one but I think it's racing when you are when you are fighting for a win it's the way it should be."
Lewis on how different it is racing Charles compared to past teammates:
« Not much different. I think the thing to remember, which maybe that comes with age, but every decision you make in the car impacts all the people that work in the background for the whole team.
Part of the job and part of our contract is we have to work as a team, which we could have easily done today. It's a shame to see us lose as we did. It will continue unless action is taken.
Of course, I've had close battles with teammates in the past & you can't always get it right but 9 times out of 10, we should be able to. We'll take it offline & have some good convos, hopefully. For sure it won't be easy but must be done. »
