New study shows that recent #measles outbreaks in #Burundi were driven by multiple virus introductions, highlighting the importance of disease surveillance to understand how the virus spreads.
Conducted by the @EDCTP3-funded GREAT-LIFE consortium.

Mpox was declared a public health emergency of international concern when clade II strains spread globally, and scaled back once that was going down. committee will have a renewed look, with widespread circulation in DRC, spread to neighbouring countries.
In light of the spread of #mpox outside #DRC, and the potential for further international spread within and outside Africa, I have decided to convene an Emergency Committee under the International Health Regulations to advise me on whether the outbreak represents a public health emergency of international concern.
The committee will meet as soon as possible and will be made up of independent experts from a range of relevant disciplines from around the world.

We present here the analysis of 58 full genome sequences of the new subclade in South Kivu from October 2023 to May 2024

Our sequence analysis of 58 MPXV clade Ib cases from Kamituga and Kamanyola, South-Kivu, DRC show that there is likely more widespread circulation outside the Kamituga region which is in line with detections in surrounding countries like Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya
update on mpox genomic analysis in South Kivu virological.org/t/preliminar…
Mpox (presumably clade 1b) now also diagnosed in Rwanda and Burundi indicating cross-border spread which is not unexpected
