Blame, complaints, excuses, frustration, and doubt appear when things go wrong, so a great season hides them and a hard moment exposes them.
Great coaches build hard moments into practice because a response trained while the stakes are low becomes your response when the stakes are high.
That trained response lets you play from preparation in the moments that decide games.

D3 doesn’t ban athletic scholarships by accident. It bans them on purpose.
No scholarship = no pressure to treat sports like a job. Athletes stay students first. Why is that an issue? Result of their approach? Highest graduation rates in the NCAA, the most participants, and kids who actually play for the love of the game.
Force scholarships and you kill the only division that still operates as the last form of amateurism in the country.
People hear "high standards" and think of money, luxury, and expensive things
I hear "high standards" and think of emotional depth, respect, integrity, and values.

Very interesting. La Cueva is ranked No. 2 by the coaches in 6A, but MaxPreps has the Bears No. 5.
It’s a bit of a head scratcher, and another piece of anecdotal evidence that MP is frequently an unsolvable entity.

Athletes: I know it can be hard to appreciate a coach who demands a lot out of you. But in time, you'll see the impact. We demand your best because we see what you're capable of. We demand your best because if we didn't, we would be selling you short.

Young Hooper Advice:
AAU is over.
Now it’s about the name across your chest.
Buy into your school. Buy into your teammates. Buy into the culture.
Different season. Different purpose.
School ball matters.
