Kalshi raised $1B at a $40B post-money valuation on Oct 29, co-led by Sequoia and Wellington.
Watch the exchange strategy behind the funding.
Its Oct 26 agreement with S&P DJI runs in two directions:
• Kalshi is licensed for event contracts tied to S&P DJI indices.
• S&P DJI can build indices from Kalshi’s event-contract data.
499 view: the opportunity extends from trading on events to supplying benchmarks for financial decisions. The hard test is whether those prices earn recurring institutional use.
Will prediction-market data become part of mainstream financial infrastructure?

Lin William Cong used a bank run to explain why economic world models must capture what people believe others will do, alongside their behaviour and the environment around them.
At Nobel Heroes & AI4SCI Summit 2026 at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, on 5 October, Cong — President’s Chair Professor at NTU, Associate Dean of Nanyang Business School and Director of GIFTS — explored AI for Social Science and Economic World Models.
Three ideas from the keynote:
• Model people and their setting together. Different preferences and ways of thinking matter; so do evolving social rules and the interactions between participants.
• Use simulations to investigate decisions. Cong described generative models for corporate decision environments and policy sandboxes, where researchers can explore responses to scenarios that historical data alone cannot reveal.
• Calibrate AI agents before drawing conclusions about people. He highlighted unresolved questions about agent biases and collusion, arguing that better understanding their behaviour is needed to simulate societies and markets.
His proposed direction brings social-science structural models together with AI world models, using equilibrium to constrain which simulated paths are realistic.

Every result from an AI research agent should be traceable to a source, Li Bei explained. In his own workflow, he reserves ideas and hypotheses for humans, then asks agents to reproduce results from papers and identify the resources they need.
On 5 October 2026 at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the Nobel Heroes & AI4SCI Summit 2026 fireside chat explored “AI-Driven Scientific Discovery: From New Hypotheses to Global Impact.”
Li, Alibaba Group’s Director of Academia-Industry Collaboration, joined Dr. Jinfeng Zhou, President of the World Academy of Sustainable Development (WAOSD). AI for Science entrepreneur Viviana moderated.
Industry support should extend beyond funding to access to AI and computing resources, Li said. Describing Alibaba and NTU’s ANGEL corporate lab, he said an experiment that consumes resources and does not work can still be a useful result for an industry partner. He urged partners to help researchers turn curiosity into results, including imperfect ones.
Zhou cautioned against relying on AI-generated hypotheses, placing the task of creating new hypotheses with human experts. He also encouraged AI use for class preparation and reports, so people could spend more time thinking and trying new ideas.

Sensing technology has to become invisible in everyday life if people are to use it, SMU Professor Rajesh Krishna Balan argued. The challenge is to collect data without violating privacy and turn that data into value for individuals. He pointed to the smartphone as a sensing platform people already carry.
On 6 October 2026 at Singapore Management University, Nobel Dialogue 1 at the Nobel Heroes & AI4SCI Summit 2026 explored “Preparing Society for Longevity: Purpose, Prevention, Resilience.”
Balan joined Nobel laureates Fred Ramsdell, Benjamin List and Sir Christopher Pissarides, alongside Winnie Qiu, Co-Founder of Avinasi Labs. Dr Cheong Wei Yang, SMU’s Vice Provost (Strategic Research Partnerships), moderated.
Pissarides called for flexible retirement ages and opportunities for older people to remain useful to society. Longer lives, he argued, also require workable income support and pension systems.
Ramsdell urged a systems view of ageing, cautioning against studying the immune system in isolation from the rest of the body. AI’s contribution, he said, is constrained by gaps in biological data.
The discussion connected everyday technology, retirement policy and scientific limits to a practical question: how can society help people live their additional years with purpose?

Fred Ramsdell described how work stemming from a gene his team found in the late 1990s had only recently reached the clinic. Its success, he stressed, was still unknown.
At the Nobel Heroes & AI4SCI 2026 Gala Dinner on 5 October 2026 at Conrad Singapore Orchard, he joined Sir Christopher Pissarides and Prof. Qiang Yang for Nobel Laureates Panel II: From Breakthroughs to Human Progress: Science, AI and the Systems That Shape Our Future. Christy Chen, Co-Founder and CEO of Cit Labs, moderated.
Ramsdell stressed that answers should follow the available data, rather than the outcome researchers want. AI can help connect disparate biological data sets, he said, but their incompleteness remains a major challenge. Turning a discovery into something useful can take decades.
Pissarides drew on the puzzle behind his research: why do jobseekers and employers struggle to find each other? AI may spark ideas, he said, but explaining the economy still requires observing what is actually happening.
Yang brought an applied perspective from WeBank. Assessing customers without face-to-face contact requires data from many fields, sometimes beyond finance. He described AI as essential to that work.

Can AI change the logic of scientific discovery?
At the Nobel Heroes & AI4SCI 2026 Gala Dinner on 5 October 2026 at Conrad Singapore Orchard, Omar M. Yaghi, Benjamin List and Sir Konstantin Novoselov offered different answers. Their first Nobel Laureates Panel, The New Logic of Discovery: From Scientific Intuition to AI-Driven Design, was moderated by Prof. Dacheng Tao.
Yaghi urged scientists to experiment with AI themselves. He described it as a new research environment, while insisting on rigorous observation, reproducibility and validation.
List recognised AI’s power but questioned whether it changes discovery’s underlying logic. He stressed the original human ideas that can take science beyond incremental advances.
Novoselov emphasised asking the right question and interpreting the answer. For him, scientific intuition develops through sustained scientific work.

What should leaders keep in human hands as AI takes on more work?
At NTU in Singapore on 5 October 2026, Lily Wang, Amanda Chen and Katrina Zhang explored this question in Women Leadership for the Next Scientific Era: Science, Technology, and Capital, part of the Nobel Heroes & AI4SCI Summit. Lillian Li moderated the discussion.
Responsibility: Chen stressed that lawyers must check AI-generated work and remain accountable for what they submit. Faster drafting does not remove professional responsibility.
Learning: Zhang advocated attempting a problem first, then asking AI for hints or explanations rather than ready-made answers. The aim is to preserve human creativity and critical thinking.
Leadership and trust: Chen called for more opportunities for women in decisions about capital and AI governance. Wang emphasised strong ideas, mentors and earning the trust of people willing to commit capital. She also stressed that face-to-face relationships remain essential as AI takes on administrative work.

What separates a working AI demo from a system people can rely on?
At NTU on 5 October, the Nobel Heroes & AI4SCI Summit 2026 panel on The New Scientific Method explored practical barriers between AI models and real-world discovery.
Qiang Yang, Cyril Leung, JJ Geewax and Zhenlin Li brought perspectives from privacy-preserving learning, care, enterprise AI and materials.
Reliability: Geewax described how much engineering is needed to make enterprise models handle varied inputs without hallucinating. Leung stressed rigorous validation and human supervision in applications involving life and health.
Distributed data: Yang explained how federated learning can help organisations train models without pooling their raw data. Communication costs, common protocols and differing data remain important challenges.
Materials: Li highlighted the lack of failed-experiment data and the gap between a material's chemical structure and its practical performance. A promising model prediction still has to contend with physical form, processing and application requirements.

What does scientific judgement bring to AI-driven discovery?
At the Nobel Heroes & AI4SCI Summit 2026 at NTU on 5 October, Nobel laureate Benjamin List and NTU professors Dacheng Tao and Yonggang Wen explored how researchers can work with AI without losing the ability to question, choose and verify.
List highlighted the challenge of radical discoveries with little prior data to learn from. He distinguished generating a new chemical prediction from testing it: his laboratory could experimentally check an unfamiliar catalyst or reaction proposed by AI.
Tao emphasised strong scientific fundamentals and research taste. Researchers need the knowledge to assess AI's answers, choose problems worth pursuing and provide feedback that helps sift the many possibilities generated by models.
Wen urged researchers to think through their questions and prompts before using AI. He also advocated documenting failed research paths so that other laboratories can learn from them, avoid repeating the same work and accelerate discovery.

AI for Future Health, Longevity and Humanity | NTU
At the Nobel Heroes & AI4SCI Summit 2026 at NTU on 5 October, Dr Fred Ramsdell and Sir Christopher Pissarides brought immunology and economics into dialogue about longer lives and the AI era.
Ramsdell emphasised quality of life and staying connected with family, friends and society. He saw promise in using immunology to support healthier ageing, while stressing the technical challenges of applying it across whole populations.
Pissarides explored how ageing societies could create new demand for care and services. He also recognised risks to some entry-level roles and the potential for affordable intelligent robots to replace jobs.
On education and research, Ramsdell warned against treating AI-generated answers and references as automatically correct. Pissarides offered a practical approach: write the first draft yourself, use AI to challenge it, then make your own corrections.
