This happens because people dont take disability seriously. They assume food requests are about preferences rather than life threatening allergies. And we see similar takes all across disability experiences. 1/11
This is horrific and devastating. A Black woman influencer, Dominique Brown, goes to an influencer event hosted by BoxLunch and dies from a food allergy even though she notified staff of her allergens. How could this happen?!! usmagazine.com/celebrity-new…

It's been 5 years since the UNSC last discussed the situation of persons w. #disabilities in armed conflicts. Thanks to truly remarkable efforts by @IwonaLula, the the UNSC finally paid attention once again. The UNSC should add those most at risk to its formal agenda.
Organized by 🇸🇮🇬🇾, with 🇵🇱🇬🇧 co-sponsoring, the @UN Security Council held an #Arria-formula mtg - only the 2nd time in history - to address the situation of persons w/ #disabilities in conflict. 🇵🇱 thanks the co-organizers, briefers & 40+ delegations for their strong engagement.

I urge everyone involved in the assisted dying conversation to read about “Kat”. She had EDS and wanted to live. She needed pain management & palliative care. She applied for MAiD thinking it would open up treatment options - because an ethical program would do just that. 🧵

New @HRW report for #IDPD2024: #Canada's immigration detention system routinely discriminates against people with disabilities, including through widespread violations of their legal capacity rights that strip them of their ability to make key decisions. hrw.org/news/2024/12/03/cana…

Yesterday, @AirCanada appealed a 2023 decision made by a federal transportation tribunal that ordered the carrier needed to accommodate passengers with mobility devices after Tim Rose was denied boarding due to the size of his power wheelchair in 2016. (Courtroom sketch by me!)

.@HRW published a report in 2019 on the unthinkable abuse of chaining of people with mental health conditions in Nigeria. The government responded to the report by adopting a ban on chaining. However, the practice persist. Photo here is from a few days ago, taken in Ibadan.

Right now we’re in it but if you were to look back at this era w the benefit of a century it would be CLEAR that the pandemic, just like in 1918, accelerated fascism as it brought eugenicist ideas into the mainstream

Horrific flooding hit Bosnia, trapping and killing entire families. A 7-year-old boy lost both of his parents. A pregnant mother lost her child who was due in a month from now.

When disability rights litigation is initiated, I wish just once media would focus their stories on people with disabilities who actually want to live, and may be struggling to do so, not digging up all the stories of people who want to die which gets more clicks.
