⚽️ Liverpool’s Turkish Humiliation Exposes Some Uncomfortable Truths
Feberbache 3-2 #LFC
There are defeats that can be explained away by misfortune, and there are performances so wretched that excuses become an insult to the intelligence. Liverpool’s 3-2 capitulation against Fenerbahçe belongs emphatically in the latter category.
This was embarrassing. A team assembled at enormous expense, blessed with international talent, somehow contrived to make struggling opposition look formidable.
Liverpool enjoyed 68% possession, attempted 22 shots and won 12 corners. Impressive figures for anyone fortunate enough to have missed the match. Those watching witnessed an alarming poverty of imagination, laborious possession and a disturbing inability to manufacture genuine danger.
At the back, the defending bordered on the farcical. Twice Liverpool led, twice they surrendered their advantage within four minutes. Jacquet’s deflection, Alisson’s indecision and the collective failure to defend elementary crosses exposed a fragility that should trouble Andoni Iraola profoundly.
His selection deserves scrutiny. Deploying Bradley Barcola through the middle was a failed experiment, and the extent of the rotation in such an unforgiving environment was questionable. Yet experienced professionals must shoulder responsibility for defending with such astonishing carelessness.
The evening’s few redeeming features came from youth. Trey Nyoni scored his first senior goal and played with admirable conviction. Rio Ngumoha carried an attacking threat that his more celebrated colleagues seemed incapable of producing.
There’s something deeply uncomfortable about teenagers providing the courage and ingenuity that established internationals cannot summon.
Two consecutive defeats now, and increasingly troubling evidence of deficiencies at both ends of the pitch.
Iraola has considerable work ahead of him. Liverpool’s supporters have every right to demand better.
Because performances of this poverty are simply unacceptable.

Gary Neville is once again commentating on the game based on what he wants to happen rather than what is happening.

He’s the most Unlikeable manager in the premier league @LFC
I've never seen a better team in the history of football than these at just throwing themselves. From that soft cunt with his sprayed on hairline Gabriel to that fucking quilt Declan Rice who dances on yoghurt adverts. Gang of absolute fannys the lot of them.
Arsenal are bollox. Most boring team in the league.
Full of cunts from the manager, the players and the refs they have in their pocket

If we’re at the point a player has to throw their arms around and make a meal of this to get a clear decision, we should all pack up and go home.
Ian Wright bang on - he shouldn’t have to make a song and dance about it.
"Isak doesn't make enough of it"
So basically if we throw ourselves about like the cunts we are playing, we get a pen.
Officials are absolutely pathetic

Can’t believe VAR hasn’t had a look at that. Shouldn’t need players throwing themselves on the ground for a penalty. He’s clearly stopped Isak making contact
Liverpool been excellent after the 1st 15 mins
Gutted to be 1 down at the break.
By far the better team.
We still win this.
Gabriel showing the cheat he is inside 5 mins. Push to the chest but goes down holding his face
Vile prick

In March 2003, Kenny was in the kitchen waiting when Marina Dalglish came home from getting the results of a scan. She told him straight out what the consultant had found.
“I’ve got breast cancer.”
“I need chemotherapy.”
He barely took in anything else after that.
“I only remember the two Cs.”
“Cancer and chemotherapy.”
She had two different types of breast cancer. It meant a double mastectomy, then chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
It had been caught early, but there were still months of operations, hospital appointments and losing her hair. Marina wasn't having any of it take over the family.
“It’s better to have no hair than no life.”
She got herself wigs in all sorts of styles and colours, and the kids would play about with them. Sitting around being miserable was never an option, and she wouldn't have stood for it anyway.
Kenny took her to chemo, sometimes at Aintree, sometimes over the Wirral at Clatterbridge. Along the way they saw how far cancer patients and their families were having to travel, and the conditions the nurses were working in.
When she got the all-clear, Marina wanted to give something back to the people who'd cared for her.
“I’d like to do something to help.”
She went to her surgeon, Lee Martin, and asked what they could do.
“Well, as you know, the facilities are pretty primitive.”
“We’d really like a new chemotherapy unit.”
Kenny had something a bit more modest in mind.
“Ok.”
“I was thinking of a golf day.”
Marina's mind was already made up.
“We’ll have a go.”
In 2005 the family launched the Marina Dalglish Appeal. A thank you to the doctors and nurses turned into millions of pounds for cancer care across Merseyside, paying for new oncology centres, chemotherapy facilities and equipment, plus support for patients and their families.
Marina never treated it as hers.
“This isn’t my charity.”
“It belongs to everybody who has supported us.”
Her name was on the door, but she'd rather stay in the background and let others get the benefit. And whenever Kenny got the praise for what the Dalglish family had done, he handed it straight back to her.
“The real one to look up to has been Marina.”
"Her charity has raised millions and millions of pounds for the fight against cancer."
The Marina Dalglish Appeal has now raised more than £15 million. Started with a golf day idea, ended with a chemo unit and a whole lot more.
