Fuse Head of Special Projects Seán Murray explains why Jules is so important to the grid:
"A lot of people have basically been blocked from getting smart energy systems at home because they don't own their home."
"You need to have landlord approval to get two guys to come around and drill a battery into a wall, right? That's the only way you can actually become a more intelligent energy user."
"What Jules is, is a portable plug-in home battery accompanied with a kind of portable solar system that you can effectively hang off your balcony or plant in your back garden."
"It's the kind of first fully complete solar and battery system that you can effectively plug in at home in the UK."
Meet Jules by Fuse Energy.

8am-10pm, 7 days a week
This was 8 months of setting up Fuse’s support function in 2022.
No back office tooling, no exception handling, pre GPT-3.5.
After 10pm every day, I’d clear 100s of exceptions with python scripts: switch date changes, reissues, cancellations, industry data reports....
Many, many lessons. Here is 3:
1/ Pain focusses priorities. Real customer tickets transformed our direction and roadmap after launching.
2/ Ban short-term fixes. Problems are valuable signals, patching quickly leads to forgetting.
3/ Understand your users intimately. Early on, EVERYONE did support shifts, founders @alanchanguk and @charlesorr included.
Now we have 24/7 support, #1 rating in the UK (4.9 on Trustpilot), and are just getting started
My favourite thing to come from the Guinness research lab was the Student t-distribution
Now a common Bayesian prior, it was originally invented to compare yield differences across varieties of barley.
Farmers would test n=4-10 plots per variety and falsely flag one as better. William Gosset found the normal distribution gave false positives here due to low sample sizes.
So he created a generalised "fat tail" distribution (which approaches normal as n->∞) to capture small sample uncertainty.
He confirmed his findings by manually drawing small samples from 3,000 criminal height records (from Scotland Yard).
Funny thing is - Guinness forbade publications to avoid leaking trade secrets. So Gosset, a brewer amongst academics, published it under the wry pseudonym "Student".
Student t is now a go-to choice for loose priors, modelling small-sample or fat-tailed data (asset returns, clinical trials, A/B tests).
Some might say Guinness were hiding their light under a bushel :p

Card issuers releasing personal agents makes sense.
Giving your agents card info = key trust barrier.
Issuers can fix that natively: per-agent virtual cards, expiry, spend caps
Getting round Amazon's agent block is diff story tho
HUGE: Revolut is building its own version of Meta Muse and Grok Bot.
CEO Nik Storonsky just told Bloomberg that AIR (AI by Revolut) will soon browse the internet and Amazon to shop for customers.
Card details stay inside Revolut’s environment, which he called “completely secure.”
Testing reportedly starts in December in the UK, then expands across Europe.
Meta’s Muse (launched September) and Grok Bot already act as personal/work agents that can handle errands and purchases on a user’s behalf.
Revolut is taking the same agentic approach and wiring it straight into banking and payments - starting with shopping.
Traditional fintech is dead. Long live agentic fintech.
Data collection for RL/robotics is going to be huge business

Any environment without an internet's worth of pretraining data is green territory potential
Man @OpenRouter is such a great name.
Think it's one of the reasons they saw such early adoption.
Just call yourself Open [X] - immediate credibility unlock.
.@HarryStebbings had one piece of advice for our founder @alanchanguk at our office last week...
Founder-led content works -> now do employee-led.
My friends have notifications on JUST for Alans posts lol
So more coming from me, from 4y+ at one of Europe's fastest growing startups, @fuseenergy

"There are things in the world that don't exist today, that would exist if energy prices were ten times cheaper." - @alanchanguk
We have grown used to a world of limits. But look closely at almost anything and you'll find the price of energy hiding inside.
At Fuse, our cost of delivering energy is already 17% lower than incumbent energy companies.
So, want more. Demand more.
