I scored 50 of India's largest companies on their public AI record, 0 to 100. The highest score was 67.6.
That's Infosys, followed by Bajaj Finance at 66.3 and Bharti Airtel at 65.3. At the bottom, Zerodha is at 30.0.
No company reached AI Compounding, the top band, which starts at 81. Nine companies, including L&T, Mahindra & Mahindra and Sun Pharma, didn't have enough public evidence to be ranked at all.
This is Edition One of The Fifty, the India AI-Native Index. It applies a published rubric to what each company has put on the public record. It doesn't look at internal systems, and it isn't investment advice.
I'd expect a lot of real AI work is happening inside these companies. Very little of it is written down anywhere a customer, a board or a new hire can see it, and from the outside that record is all they get.
If someone scored your company only on what it has said publicly about AI, where would you land?

Had an "interview" for a blockchain project last week.
Camera was on, we're chatting, and the guy tells me to clone a GitHub repo and run it locally before we go further into the technical round.
I said sure, but first can you do me a favor
hold up 3 fingers in front of your face for me real quick.
He froze.
Didn't move.
Just sat there for a few seconds before the call cut off and he blocked me.
That's when I knew. A real interviewer doesn't glitch out over a random ask like that. A deepfake/AI overlay does.
These "run this repo" scams are getting scary common in crypto and dev hiring right now.
The setup is always the same:
- flattering DM
- real-sounding project
- rushed timeline
- a "quick step" before the call
that's really just remote access or a credential stealer in disguise.
If someone wants you to run code or install something before you've even had a real conversation, that's the whole scam.
Trust the instinct. Stay safe out there.

Met a startup that benchmarked AI vs humans for insurance sales. Interesting and rather counter-intuitive conversion numbers.
Human call center: 1x
Voice AI: 0.7x
AI text chat: 1.3x
AI text chat + human call center: 1.8x
So much for our assumptions about Indian customers.

A girl from IIT Bombay who was there during the incident has shared the whole story.🚨
Q: Were you and Sahil in the same course? And were you there when the professor caught him cheating?
Girl: Yes, we were in the same course. Around 1 PM, the Suryanarayana sir caught Sahil cheating. He didn’t shout at him. He said, “What are you doing? This is unfair to other students. Don’t panic. Everyone makes mistakes.”👏
Q: But many are saying Prof. Suryanarayana discriminated against students based on caste?
Girl: Never. Suryanarayana sir was one of the best prof. we had. He always taught us with jokes in between and never treated anyone differently. My grades in Power Electronics have improved a lot because of him.🥺💛
