Let's be clear about what happened: the Freedom Convoy was an attempt to dismantle and overthrow a democratically elected government. @PierrePoilievre and @CPC_HQ didn't just watch—they actively endorsed and enabled it. That’s the bottom line.

Conservatives are deluded in taking this position from @jackmintz. They’d prefer to gift large windfalls to already profitable companies rather than reward investment that builds jobs and capacity.

Insightful piece by @jackmintz:
“…there is nothing mega about the new [Liberal tax] policy, which fails the three criteria for a good tax structure: efficiency, fairness and simplicity. A far better choice would be to reduce corporate income tax rates so as to spur investment in all business activities, not just those chosen by government. Most major tax reforms around the world, including Canada’s past efforts, follow two principles: low rates and neutrality across business activities. The mega productivity deduction goes in the opposite direction…
“…This produces a negative tax rate that effectively subsidizes capital, giving businesses a preference for investing in capital-intensive processes like AI rather than hiring workers…
“…Ottawa is right to encourage investment in Canada. But it has chosen Donald Trump’s path, not a Canadian one. We should keep to the tried-and-true recipe we have followed in tax reforms over the past half century: lower the tax rate and broaden the tax base.”

I’m surprised, and not a little disheartened, that this is not the dominant topic of conversation in Canada today. We have troops in Latvia. If this all kicks off - and the Russians are said to be building military hospitals - we are at war.

Those who claim that it’s not worth building ties with Europe because the continental alliance is “on the decline” are either a few years out of date or are too dependent on ideological messaging from the authoritarian fringe

“In fact, this is a profound moment of continental reinvention and newfound unity – a moment in which, as we watch the U.S. become the burial ground of Western values and freedoms, the countries that originally articulated those values are moving in the opposite direction”

A Russian attack destroyed the warehouse of Olena Zelenska Foundation today.
Humanitarian aid t be distributed to Ukrainian kids, their families and schools was kept there, waiting to be transported across Ukraine: generators, household appliances, e-books, laptops, tablets, medical equipment etc.
In recent months, Russia has also attacked warehouses of international relief organizations such as the Red Cross and the UN.
Russia intensifies its terror on Ukrainian civilians, hoping to make their lives as miserable as possible and cause a humanitarian refugee crisis in Europe this winter.

Putin has consistently shown that he is not serious about peace. Just in the last few days, a Russian warship fired flares at a Danish helicopter, NATO intercepted a drone over Lithuania, and Russia struck a passenger train near Ukraine’s border with Poland. These are reckless and provocative acts designed to test our unity.
Russia will not divide us. NATO is protecting Allied airspace. Canada stands with Denmark, Lithuania and Ukraine. Our commitment to NATO and Ukraine will not waver.

Yes. It’s a much smarter and more progressive tax move than rewarding rich incomes or dead money or a general corp tax cut.
Ok, this is a pretty big deal
Marginal effective tax rate on new investment going from 13% to 6.4%
Immediate expensing used to cover about 15% of what a business actually buys, like machinery, equipment, tech.
With these new rules, it’s 65%+ and would apply to more things: pipelines, rail, fibre, software, R&D, patents, vehicles, computers.
What that means in practice: if you buy a $10M asset, you write off $10M this year and lowers the tax bill now
Very meaningful for capex heavy industries like energy, mining, telecom, logistics

The thing I suspect is getting missed: selling off infrastructure isn't about raising cash. It's about creating a dividend paying asset class for major pension funds -- like the CPP -- that aren't American and don't tie Canada's pension plans as deeply to the U.S. economy.
