Russia has made more than one strategic chess move taking concrete military action in Ukraine. There is no political theory on the Ukrainian side how to settle such conflict peacefully. Maybe in the Soviet times such actions would have successfully suppressed all resistance.

The Bucha case makes an interesting topic for discussion and even political influencing, because some evidence points to deliberate staging of a massacre. Still I think that the simple need to collect executed people and show them for cameras could have been the prime motivation.

I think that there is no way of mitigating the historical grudge between Russians and Ukrainians. Both feel that they have absolutely good reasons to hate the other side. Ironically only a corrupted government could keep Ukrainians friendly towards Russians, just not Yanukovych.

I believe that a table solution isn't possible for the conflict. I suggest a "train solution" instead. Lack of compassion is a major problem, perhaps on both sides. Turning the ship to a safe direction and starting the long voyage will be futile without faith in a common journey.

Bucha was destined to become a slaughterhouse for civilians, because it was a strategically important civilian settlement along the road for both attackers and defenders. Troop presence there caused deficit of food supplies, what led to friction between soldiers and civilians.

The problem is that the war itself shouldn't be labeled ethical. The problem is that the war hardens up as if by itself and it claims in any case civilians. The problem is that soldiers also are people in their civilian lives, not merely material to be consumed.
