My family and I have received, with profound sadness, the news of the passing of Omukeikuru Domitria Kyarugahe Ntegamahe. Omukeikuru was a woman of exceptional courage, strength and conviction, whose energy, dedication and commitment to the people of Kigezi made her an outstanding and an exemplary leader. Together with her late husband, Mzee Ntegamahe, she played a pivotal role in championing and consolidating the unity of the people of Kigezi, who for many years had been deeply divided by sectarian politics. The Ntegamahes devoted their lives to the noble cause of bringing people together, fostering reconciliation and promoting the common good. Their home became a welcoming meeting place for all those committed to the unity, peace and progress of Kabale, Kigezi and Uganda as a whole. It was a place where people from different backgrounds and political persuasions could come together in the spirit of dialogue, understanding and shared purpose. Dr Christine Mwebesa, Ntegamahe and I were among the political leaders in Kigezi who greatly benefited from the wisdom, generosity and patriotism of Mzee Ntegamahe and Omukeikuru Domitria. Their contribution to the political and social development of Kigezi remains an enduring legacy. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the family for the loving care, devotion and dignity with which you looked after her during her final years. The most fitting tribute we can pay to this remarkable lady is to emulate her example by continuing the work to which she and her late husband dedicated their lives: building a peaceful, united and prosperous Uganda.
