Across icy heights and dense forests, through desert sands and difficult terrain, the foot soldier stands guard with courage in his heart, his comrades beside him and the nation’s trust on his shoulders. On 27 October 1947, soldiers of 1 SIKH were airlifted to Srinagar to defend Jammu and Kashmir. Their courage became part of the proud legacy we honour on Infantry Day. Today, we remember those who made the supreme sacrifice, honour, our veterans and salute every infantry soldier who continues to serve.
