Yesterday, Bomet County was in focus as the Departmental Committee on Social Protection, represented by Hon. Samuel Moroto, Kapenguria MP, and the Anti-FGM Board, led by Ag. CEO Nyerere Kutwa, engaged the County Anti-FGM Steering Committee and stakeholders on efforts to end FGM.
The @AFGMBoard had engagement with the National Assembly's Departmental Committee on Social Protection and member of the Nyeri County Gender Technical Working Group at Nyeri National Polytechnic on scaling up community-led accountability and sealing gaps in the fight #againstFGM
Today’s focus shifted toward localized tracking and matching multi-agency resources to combat emerging FGM trends across Nyeri County. Protecting the dignity and future of girls and women requires pro-active oversight, strict policy co-ordination and public awareness campaigns.
The Parliamentary Committee on Social Protection plays a vital role in the protection of vulnerable groups including survivors of GBV and harmful practices as well as managing the policies on social welfare.

As the Prohibition of FGM Act review is about to get to the public participation stage, the Board asked for the support of the Committee to see the process through to its finality. The chairperson of the Board indicated that we can not talk about FGM in isolation.
We ought to amplify our voices against child marriage, children pregnancy and school dropouts with FGM as the precursor. The committee vowed to support us seeing the review of the Act is finalised and funding in the fight against FGM.

In Narok County today, the Departmental Committee on Social Protection joined the Board for a forum to assess progress, identify gaps and strengthen efforts to eliminate FGM.

Stakeholders also highlighted persistent challenges: inadequate resources, hard-to-reach areas, long distances to police posts, limited access to gender desks, and the lack of unified county-specific data to guide planning, targeting and measurement of interventions.
We were in Nyamira to advance preparations for International Day of the Girl Child 2026, to be hosted in the county. We paid a courtesy call on the County Commissioner’s and Governor's offices. This year’s customised theme is “Ending FGM and Investing in Girls’ Rights.” #IDG2026
Community Health Promoters (CHPs) act as a bridge between households and health facilities by providing basic screening, health education and referral of patients. the Board engaged the Community Health Promoters on their role in the fight against FGM and other harmful practice.
Community Health Promoters are key to protecting girls from FGM.
In Nyamarambe, Kisii County, the Board sensitized CHPs on reporting FGM cases using the available tool, and on engaging parents and girls during household and community health visits.
