My dad tried to sell his house last month. Appraised at $475,000. Realtor commission: $28,500. Capital gains tax on the appreciation: $85,000. Closing costs: $13,000. He clears $348,500 after 30 years of payments. He bought it for $125,000 in 1994. The house appreciated. The government called it income. He can't downsize because smaller houses cost almost the same. He can't stay because maintenance is killing him. He's trapped. The house isn't an asset anymore. It's a tax liability. Congratulations on your wealth. The IRS wants their cut.

Rightfully so.. politicians believe they are untouchable and they are not scared of their constituents anymore.
Violence erupted at Memphis City Hall during a City Council meeting over Elon Musk’s data centers.

Nolan Wells, a young Black man, was murdered by his WHITE friends, and the state of Mississippi is letting them get away with it. I don’t want to hear another word about how systemic racism doesn’t exist.

If you’re offended by black history books, you’re racist.

Mississippi ended its investigation into the death of Nolan Wells with the grand jury report. How he died is now an orphaned question, belonging to whoever volunteers to pursue it. ow.ly/Q36F50ZV4QN

Nolan Wells didn’t accidentally drown. The systemic abandonment of his investigation is a reminder that Black deaths are background noise to this system.

💔 Çocunuzun "Açım" demesine rağmen ona verecek hiçbir şeyinizin olmaması yürek burkucu. Yiyecek, güvenlik ve umut için biraz yardım istiyoruz. 🙏😭

It's as if Sudan isn't a Muslim country... we'll be held accountable for our silence about it. Beware of forgetting Sudan.

Something unprecedented happened during my visit to the Gulf. For the first time in 20 years in Congress, I was denied entry to U.S. military facilities and even meetings with military leaders. An order from Hegseth - that applies to both parties - to hide the cost of the war.

The U.S. is a high gross income, low net living standard country. It pays high wages and then takes them back through privatized costs that other high-income countries socialize. The working class here is more indebted, more precarious, and more alone.

Did you know the desire to escape slavery was once classified as a mental illness called drapetomania in 1851? Black people were considered mentally ill for refusing to live in bondage.

The NFL had a Black head coach in 1921. Then in 1934 it quietly banned Black players altogether — no announcement, no rule, nothing written down — and kept them out for TWELVE YEARS. Fritz Pollard. He was an All-American at Brown, the first Black player in the Rose Bowl, and one of the first Black players in the league that became the NFL. In 1921 he was co-head coach of the Akron Pros while still playing for them. He was spat at, piled on after the whistle, and had to dress for games separately because the facilities would not take him. He developed a habit of rolling onto his back after a tackle and kicking his cleats up so nobody could land on him. Then after the 1933 season, Black players simply stopped being signed. Every one of them. There was no rule — the owners just agreed, informally, and the sportswriters did not press it. The ban held until 1946, when the Rams needed a stadium lease in Los Angeles and the city's commissioners said they would not grant it to a segregated team.
