I just onboarded a school principal to a Finite Computer today and gave him an agent. He's super smart and cool and had only used ChatGPT as a “better version of Google search”.
But in the first 10 minutes he rebuilt his school website, and was totally blown away. So he started thinking about all the other things in his school he could fix like invoice tracking, scheduling, etc.
Now he sees himself has a builder empowered by the agent. It's so fun onboarding people to SI. What a time to be alive.
This is peak mega dumb pleb slop
BREAKING: We believe that ChatGPT has been performing a birthday attack on SHA256 every since its release.
Our research team found tens of millions of spurious instances of ChatGPT hashing random documents in what seems to be a distributed collaborative project between sibling instances of itself.
We can only assume its goal is to perform a birthday attack, looking for matching pairs of SHA256 hashes to mount a collision attack.
It's currently unknown whether this attack has affected foreign governments. The NSA and the FBI declined to comment.

How can AI help activists overcome authoritarian repression?
At @NEDemocracy and @HRF’s AI Hack for Freedom III, activists from around the world brought real challenges from their work, teamed up with developers and designers, and raced to turn their ideas into AI-powered prototypes before pitching them to a panel of judges.
Competition winners developed tools to expand offline learning for Afghan women and girls, expose authoritarian influence in sports, and protect evidence of harassment.

This seems like the most important single decision humanity has to make about ai. Glad to see the pope sees clearly.
Terrifying implications that anthropic wants the opposite.
NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…

Lots of good questions since we published Shielded Bitcoin. Bitcoin++ asked us to tackle a dozen of them — covering common misconceptions, trade-offs, and open avenues for research. Enjoy digging into this conversation with @ClaraShik and @btcinsider__.
Can witness encryption really get us private bitcoin? We sat down with @clarashik, to clarify where @allocinitxyz research's stands today, and what still needs to be demonstrated

God truly is GREAT! WE WON!
Thank you to @HRF, NED, and all who made this journey from Windhoek to winning in Washington DC a reality.
Most of all, thank you to my amazing team members who made me feel like I was learning while working @ckanimba @Schnitzel @carl_dong 🙌🏾 🥳

Proud to celebrate WLC Secretary General @ckanimba and Spokesperson @choosechemi for taking 1st and 3rd place! 👏
Thank you, @NEDemocracy, for creating spaces to explore how AI and new tools can strengthen those fighting for freedom and democracy around the world. 🌍
New AI tools are unleashing the potential of democracy activists around the world.
This week, 10 incredible activists joined top open-source software developers at NED to compete in the AI Hack for Freedom III, developing custom digital tools to address the most pressing challenges facing democracy and human rights defenders today.
Votes are in from our judges, and we’re pleased to announce our winners:
1st: Rwanda's @ckanimba for Behind the Jersey, a platform that reveals authoritarian funding of sports teams
2nd: Turkey’s @kadiryagizcetin, for Ustad, an offline learning platform so Afghan girls can access educational materials without the internet
3rd: Tibetan-Canadian activist @choosechemi for Nima, an application capturing streaming video footage to capture evidence of abuse even when an activist’s phone is destroyed
Thanks to @HRF, @UMDPublicPolicy, and the AI Freedom Lab for partnering to make this event possible.

Where the real power was on display in DC this week @hrf @aifreedomlab_ hrf.org/latest/announcing-th…
A really really special event.
The juxtaposition of the freedom tech hackathon in NED’s HQ with a swarm of CCP protestors just outside was quite surreal.
The activists and devs were all incredible. And we had 10 very high quality projects.
Thanks to everyone involved.
Today I had the pleasure of judging another AI Hackathon for Freedom. Picking the top 3 Freedom Tech projects out of 10 was incredibly hard.
I’m absolutely mind-blown by how dramatically AI is accelerating the development of powerful tools for freedom. In just 24 hours, we saw 10 fully working projects with the potential to reshape how people around the world fight censorship, repression, and authoritarianism.
🥇 First place went to Carine Kanimba with her project “Behind the Jersey.” 👏

AI is getting cheaper more quickly than any other transformative tech in history. At a given level of performance, cost has fallen ~47%/quarter since 2023.
That’s 4× faster than DNA sequencing, 6× faster than compute, 18× faster than lithium batteries, and (up to 1973) 54× faster than electricity.
