Prayers for Greenwood PD along with Officer Keller’s family. Gone too soon!
South Carolina Police K9 Officer Don “DJ” Keller, who gave his life in the line of duty, is the 39th officer lost in 2026.
RIP. Don “DJ”Keller, was killed in a head-on collision during the pursuit of a 15 driver who fled from a traffic stop.
Around 4:56 p.m., when an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle suspected to be involved in several shooting-related incidents, the three suspects in the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. While traveling westbound on East Cambridge Avenue, the driver crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into Officer Keller, who was traveling eastbound while responding to assist.
Officer Keller died at the scene. His K9 Vice wasn’t not injured in the collision.
The driver, age 15, and the two passengers, ages 17 and 18, were transported to the hospital. One suspect was taken into custody after being released from the hospital.
Officer Keller was a United States Army and National Guard veteran who served with the Greenwood Police Department for three years.
He is survived by his wife and daughter.
