🚨 BREAKING: A fire at the Department of Energy's Savannah River nuclear site in South Carolina has triggered a SITE AREA EMERGENCY and an "unfiltered ground-level RADIOLOGICAL release," per WRDW
Workers are SHELTERED-IN-PLACE and air, river, and rail traffic is HEAVILY restricted.
Luckily, the fire has been CONTAINED, and officials believe they can prevent further contamination. Let's hope these folks are MUCH more competent than those who said the East Palestine, Ohio contamination was contained.

The Savannah River Site is a 310 sq mile site that’s used by the Department of Energy that cleans up (in part) waste from weapons production, including processing excess plutonium.
Most of the weapons were produced during the Cold War
Obviously, that’s why a fire becomes a problem.
🚨 UPDATE: The Department of Energy announced there's NO LONGER an "operational emergency" at the Savannah River Site, and workers are being released to go back to work
It is NOT believed there'll be any ongoing health hazards, but we'll continue monitoring for updates.
