Tops are a process.
If you got caught buying new highs in the NDX last week, you were part of that process.
Good work.

Everything that can and will happen this coming week of trading is purely a setup for next week.
Next week is the hook for all of October.
Whether the break is higher or lower, the market is unlikely to let investors wait for earnings and the FOMC before making its move.
Earnings and the Fed will simply be an accelerant for whatever trend develops next week.
Have been working on tonight's note for the past few hours.
Targets and scenarios moving forward.
Will be released shortly.

Knew the probability of the type of move we saw today was unusually high, which is why I went from years long bull to bear in recent months.
I was, however, surprised by the timing of this move today.
There is valuable information in that timing.
Today shouldn't have happened when it did.
Will detail further tonight.

Today changes a lot of things.
Select growth names become increasingly binary from this point forward.
Time is the only separating factor, and the market is answering that question, as well.
New note coming tonight.

If it does break it has to be sizable. Becoming increasingly apparent that the market is begging for a reset. Your typical 10-20 percent down but I think the story could be how fast it happens.
Something is definitely off here. I can't pinpoint it but can certainly feel it. And after all these years, I've learned to trust my discomfort when it shows up.

Now we know.
It's the former....

Not sure.
It will be an incredibly violent quick correction, bordering on a crash.
Or
It will be a prolonged, painful correction bordering on a bear market.
"Bordering" may not be necessary language in either case, actually.

Last Sunday's Turning Points, discussing the downside possibilities for the SOX, prior to one of its worst down days of the year yesterday.
Are these guys serious?
Earlier this year, they waited until the software panic was exhausted on the downside, then arrived with 40 pages of reasons to panic exactly at the lows.
Now they are calling for a shift in infrastructure spending after most stocks are down 50%-70%.
An indispensable service for anyone who wants to know what they should have done two quarters ago.
I'm comfortable with how we are allocated currently.
Will have an update before the week is out with what to expect moving forward now that elections and earnings, for the most part, are finished.
Investors are beginning to understand what happens when months long distribution patterns turn into termination moves.
Much more to go on the downside LT.
But....it will not be in a straight line. The squeezes, when they do come, will be ferocious.

Given that growth names are our primary investment vehicle, avoiding this debacle as much as possible over the past few months has been a worthy effort.
What this level of selling means for the long term is difficult to say.
There are a lot of names that aren't coming back from this. Terminal patterns are everywhere.
There are other names that are beginning to present opportunity, while being under accumulation. Obvious rotation taking place to future leaders.
For the remainder of 2026, this remains a market that is best approached week by week, and at times, day by day.
Have a specific timeframe for the low.
Also, may be calling a slight audible for the week versus the roadmap presented in Sunday's Turning Points.
Will have a new note out prior to the close today.
As of January 1st Zenolytics Turning Points monthly membership will be raised to $249 from the current $179.
Those who are at the $179 price currently will be held at that price, with no increase.
Increase applies to new clients who sign up from January 1st onward.
Now that October is over, everyone should understand what was meant by the hook described right near the market top.
The week of October 12th... the week of October 26th.
Everything that can and will happen this coming week of trading is purely a setup for next week.

Also worth keeping an eye on private equity names for clues of a turn.
nitter.cf/AMeshkati/status/21100…
Used to consider private equity names like BX and KKR leading indicators for both the economy and the markets.
The rate environment and the economy’s increasing concentration in AI have distorted their signaling value to a great extent.
There is, however, no known universe where BX down 28% for the year and KKR down 31%, with neither showing any signs of a reversal, are anything other than concerning.
There is an argument to be made that weakness in precious metals preceded/signaled the terrible price action in growth and the broader indices.
Liquidity suffered a dramatic shift early in the year, with precious metals sniffing it out first. Everything since has been a slow motion reluctance by a variety of asset classes to fall in line, following precious metals.
With that being said, understanding where and when gold may form a low is imperative.
Have been discussing the downside price target pictured in the GLD chart below for some months now.
nitter.cf/AMeshkati/status/21078…
Exactly what we have seen described well ahead in August.
Unfortunately, the selling has reached a stage where it is beginning to overwhelm the broader indices.
No more "sideways at best."
Replying to @1leone
Many semis have corrected 30-40 percent already while software, as one example, is up 40% from its lows.
Hardware can correct substantially with capital rotating to other sectors. Likely creates a sideways at best scenario for the broader indices, however.

Tough week for investors but market breadth is great. And as long as market breadth is great then the markets are healthy and that means they just keep going up.
It's like those guys that say "at least you still have your health" to a guy that just lost his house.
