@MayorToddGloria You’re free to condemn the President’s wording. But if you’re going to speak for “every person who calls this great city home,” then I’d like to see this same urgency directed at the problems San Diegans are actually asking City Hall to solve. Your own 2026 Resident Budget Survey received 13,640 responses. The three biggest concerns residents selected were: 5,988 — poor street and sidewalk conditions 5,064 — homelessness 4,731 — housing costs And when residents were asked what services should be protected from cuts, the top choices included street repair, police and fire-rescue. Those aren’t talking points. Those are the results of the City of San Diego’s own survey. Homelessness is still an enormous problem. The 2026 count found 5,958 homeless people inside the City of San Diego, including 3,132 living unsheltered. To be fair, unsheltered homelessness fell 6.6% from last year, which is progress. But total homelessness still increased 1.6%. Meanwhile, the City and Housing Commission have $234.5 million budgeted for homelessness programs in FY2027 when permanent supportive housing and federal housing vouchers are included. Even excluding those categories, the Independent Budget Analyst says homelessness funding has grown from under $9.5 million in FY2017 to $109.5 million in FY2027 — more than an elevenfold increase. Residents have every right to ask what measurable results they are getting for that level of spending. Then there’s basic infrastructure. San Diego’s Independent Budget Analyst says the city has $12.8 BILLION in infrastructure needs over the next five years but only about $5 billion in projected funding. That leaves a $7.8 BILLION funding gap. Included in that gap: $5.1B for stormwater infrastructure $678M for street pavement $467M for streetlights $253M for sidewalks $222M for police stations $310M for fire stations This isn’t abstract either. Your administration just declared another local emergency preparing for El Niño, while the IBA warns that aging drainage infrastructure and continued underfunding increase the risk of failures. Housing is still brutally expensive. Zillow’s February 2026 data put typical San Diego rent around $2,871/month and the average home value around $928,000. Their affordability calculation says someone would need roughly $115,000/year just to keep typical rent at 30% of income. Residents are also getting hit by utilities. City water rates rose 14.7% on January 1, 2026 and wastewater rates rose 6%. And literally today, October 6, the City Council is holding another public hearing regarding the water-rate structure for 2027. The city also entered this budget cycle dealing with a $118 million structural deficit. And South County is still dealing with the Tijuana River sewage crisis badly enough that the City Council renewed its official state of emergency again in September. There has been legitimate federal and Mexican progress on the infrastructure projects this year, but the problem is not finished. So yes, defend San Diego when you believe it’s being attacked. That’s part of being mayor. But please bring that same energy every day to the streets, sidewalks, homelessness, housing affordability, storm drains, utility costs, sewage crisis, police, fire services and the city’s finances. San Diegans don’t need more political theater from either side. They need a city government that executes on the basic things residents are repeatedly telling you matter most.

San Diego 3/1/2026. Complete lack of honoring the dignity & worth of those in need and desensitizing everyday citizens.
