Botswana 🇧🇼 has been selected as the host market for Southern African investors seeking to participate in the IPO of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Africa’s largest oil refinery.
The IPO aims to raise $1.6 billion, with the total potentially reaching $2.1 billion. The funds will support a planned $14.3 billion expansion to double the refinery’s capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day.
Kenya has also approved access for East African investors, while Uganda has allowed participation mainly for professional and high-net-worth investors.
Botswana got selected as the host venue for the southern African portion of the IPO of the continent’s largest oil refinery, giving the relatively small market a key role in the region’s biggest listing to date bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Botswana is building new engines of growth.
Good discussion with Vice President and Finance Minister @Ndaba_Gaolathe on how @IFC_org can mobilize private investment to support the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme, particularly in energy, agriculture, and tourism.

We head to the 2026 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings with a compelling investment proposition, Botswana’s economic future is open for business.
With the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP) guiding our ambitions, we go in pursuit of investment.

Sefhophe has put forward one of its own, Thabiso Focus Galebotse, shaped by years of public service, engineering and local government. We came to stand with the people, and left strengthened by the conviction that leadership begins closest to home.

To our change agents, the Standard 7, Form 3 and Form 5 students of the Gaborone Bonnington South (GBS) 2026 cohort, and young people across Botswana. I wish you every success as you prepare to write your examinations. It was heartwarming to spend time with you, a day filled with laughter, expectation, learning and, of course, some impressive dancing! I stand to be corrected, but the Standard 7s may just have taken the crown! 📷
Yet, beyond the festivities, the day reminded me of something fundamental, preparation is everything. We often speak of people as being “lucky” when their moment arrives. But what we sometimes do not see are the years of preparation that came before it ,the learning, discipline, sacrifice, persistence and quiet work that prepared them for their opportunity.
Like Joseph, who helped Egypt prepare during the years of plenty for the years ahead, I encourage our young people to use these formative years wisely. Learn. Ask questions. Build good habits. Respect your teachers and parents. Support one another. Seek knowledge wherever you can.
And remember, you cannot do it alone. Our success is strengthened when we lift one another, just as an eagle rises higher on the strength of its wings. Together, we can rise higher and build a brighter future for our country.
To our teachers, volunteers and parents, thank you for walking this journey with our young people. Your time, guidance, sacrifice and belief in them are investments in the future of Botswana.
To our students, as you enter your examinations, sleep well, stay healthy, practise with past papers, remain disciplined, and trust the preparation you have put in.Do your best, and leave the rest to God.
I am already proud of you. Keep learning. Keep preparing. Keep rising. Because preparation is everything.
Preparation.
Preparation. Preparation.
God bless you, and all the very best to the 2026 cohorts
