“I don't want to point the finger at anyone. In 2025, I asked Sporting for help, specifically psychological support (due to depression following his ACL injury and abrupt end of career), but not only that. I had a project in mind, but it didn't materialize. It's a shame, especially because I had helped the club when they asked me to lower my salary. From a human point of view, I couldn't understand it. Even today I don't know why they refused. I wanted to create a small academy in France and establish a connection with Sporting. I contacted the sporting director by message and said, 'I'm going to Lisbon. Can we meet?' We met on Monday at the training center. We talked, and I told him about the problems I had been going through. He told me he would talk to the president about my project to try and help me. On Wednesday, Sporting played against FC Porto in the Cup. I watched the game, and they put me in a box. When the game ended, I waited for the president for ten to fifteen minutes. I called my contact to ask if I could go down to the locker rooms. That's when he stopped answering me. Finally, another contact came to get me. I went down to the tunnel and waited, without anyone appearing, for 45 minutes. I felt like a stranger. I had the impression that I hadn't done anything for the club. They had forgotten me, and that hurt me. I prefer to be told no than to be left waiting without any explanation. I eventually managed to contact the sporting director, who told me that the president had already left. I was deeply disappointed and returned.” - Jeremy Mathieu in a recent interview with So Foot
