#AVFC to extend Unai Emery's contract beyond 2029. Led by Nassef Sawiris, the plan is to also renew the contracts of Emery's key football executives, Roberto Olabe and Damian Vidagany. Villa had informed Emery of their intentions to renew his contract some time ago, with the 55yo happy at the club. Story @TheAthleticFC

🚨 Aston Villa confirm that Unai Emery held discussions today with Nassef Sawiris, alongside Damian Vidagany and Roberto Olabe, to jointly map out the club's long-term direction. Crucially, the discussions involved "establishing a clear commitment beyond 2029" - the year Emery's current contract is due to expire.

Aston Villa held an important working meeting today to plan the club's future and lay the foundations for its long-term sporting and institutional project.
The meeting brought together Nassef Sawiris, the club's Chairman and Unai Emery alongside President of Football Operations Roberto Olabe and Director of Football Operations Damián Vidagany.
The discussions focused on jointly planning the club's long-term strategic direction, with positive discussions establishing a clear commitment beyond 2029 for the joint development of the club under the sporting leadership of Unai Emery based on the shared ambitions and common goal to reach excellency and keep growing during the next years.
The objective is clear: to build an ambitious, competitive Aston Villa capable of taking on the biggest challenges and achievements.
Softest yellow card I've ever seen for Maatsen there. Come off it ref.

“I've had no suggestion that this would be a realistic prospect mid-season.
“As far as I'm concerned, Unai Emery is Aston Villa's coach and if Manchester United want to make a change they will have to look elsewhere.”

Another big European night awaits Aston Villa. Barcelona haven't kept a clean sheet in the UCL for 18 months and are without several defenders through injury, so you'd back Nicolas Jackson to get a chance or two. A big part of the evening, though, will be how Villa manage the occasion and embrace the challenge.

💬 "Having had the experience at Arsenal, where he felt somewhat isolated and disconnected from the club’s ownership, he asked me to structure the non-technical aspects of the football operations, establishing a protocol for the relationship with the club’s ownership."
