The desire of women who have survived any type of abuse to just be believed is a lingering longing that haunts them in every day experiences, including their nightmares.

It was an honor to be invited onto @RadicalLoveLive #podcast this week to speak about my firsthand experience from my previous role as a #womanpastor in the #SBC and how I survived a hostile workplace environment on staff at a church ruled by #coercivecontrol.
#SouthernBaptist
NEWEST EPISODE: This week we speak with Lori Adams-Brown, speaker of truth and true survivor. And she has a story to tell. She straddles the unique space of being a woman who served in the role of Pastor in the SBC, but was also the victim of abuse, then ostracized because she chose honesty over an NDA. (Apologies the sound mix is a tiny bit rough--we wanted to get this out pretty quickly to coincide with the Southern Baptist Convention meeting--Thanks to Marvin at Bravery Studios for the speedy turnaround!)
This week Kelly talks with Lori Adams-Brown, who has an amazing story of resilience and healing after religious abuse from her work in a prominent megachurch. As this podcast is launching, the Southern Baptist Convention is having their annual meeting to talk about, among other things, the role of women in the church (and honestly, the role of women in life!) Lori is unique in that she has had a role of "Pastor" in a church that said it was pro-women, but found it was a front for exclusion, aggression, and abuse.
In addition to her healing journey, Lori also talks about the work she does now, as a consultant and coach, bringing her spiritual lessons with her as she works for inclusion in that other sacred space--the workplace--and creating safe avenues for whistleblowers to make their voices heard.
Lori Adams-Brown is a business and nonprofit executive and inclusivity specialist with 30 years experience of living and working abroad in Central & South America, Asia and the San Francisco Bay Area. Lori is is a combination of international speaker, business executive, podcaster and relief and development expert. She hosts the popular podcast "A World of Difference," celebrating humanityโs unique differences and encouraging us all to make a difference around the world.

One of the most heartbreaking realities of next week is how many women who have only wanted to serve in their faith will be tossed aside, and their calling treated as heretical.

Image Management in systems that cover up bullying instead of eliminating the systems that coddle and enable bullies works in the short term. Unfortunately, many great leaders are lost in the process, and once they see, they leave for more psychologically safe environments.

To this day, the most maddening thing I ever experienced as a Southern Baptist. It was the end for me which meant leaving the lifelong denominational home Iโd deeply loved and served since I was 12 and women Iโd studied Scripture alongside for decades. It was a death I have had to seek much healing from the Lord to recover from.
They (who do this โ and it is no fringe group) are masters of diversion. Look at the history honestly. They have done it and do it over and over and not only in regard to abuse but racism. And they do it because it WORKS. It is sinful, deceptive and on open display before the eyes of the Lord with whom we all have to do.
They can forbid women to speak or teach or preach or anything else they vote to do. That is their denominational right. But what they canโt do is lie, scheme, cover and manipulate and get away with it. The Lord sees and, at some point, time will be up.
