Tariffs have been hard on Wasson Watch Co, I won't lie. Despite that, I believe tariffs are in the long-term best interest of our nation. It provides incentive to manufacture in the US, which is ultimately better for the economy, better for jobs, and better for resiliency, both economic and military. One of our biggest strategic vulnerabilities is our lack of domestic manufacturing. As long as it is 10 to 100 times cheaper to manifcture overseas, no one will do it. I commend @realDonaldTrump for doing the hard thing, even when not popular.
.@POTUS: "We have thousands of plants and factories being built in the United States... If I took tariffs off right now, every one of those plants would immediately stop construction."

Victor Davis Hanson just rejected JD Vance’s claim that the Iran war cost Republicans the midterms. “It’s not the war.” Now, he says President Trump needs to hit Iran “very, very hard.” “Pickaxe Mountain.” “For two or three weeks.” Hanson is convinced that Trump “did the impossible” in the beginning of the Iran war, “but they didn’t explain it.” “They didn’t say to the American people, 7 presidents said you can’t let them get a nuclear weapon.” “They’re closer than ever before.” “This is an existential threat.” “When the war broke out, he had over 50% approval.” “And they had a spectacular success for the first 38 days.” “There were mistakes, but the biggest problem was we had almost won.” “Then once they stopped in 38 [days], they were not quite done yet.” “They hadn’t prepared for the Hormuz.” Then, he says they failed by letting negotiations drag on for months on end. “We still have eight months before the midterm.” “Six months.” “Five months.” “Four months.” “Three months.” “They got into a haggling with people who don’t tell the truth and have no intention to negotiate.” And now, he says Iran’s leaders are celebrating. “These people are sky-high, high-fiving themselves that they stopped Trump with the midterms.” “And they’re not going to negotiate.” @VDHanson

If young white men left our coalition to vote for the morons they just voted out for making things more expensive than they are now, why would Joel need to lecture a demographic that's not in our coalition, Matt? "At what point do you guys engage in some of the self reflection"
Joel, have you ever specifically lectured black women for voting almost exclusively for Democrats? Also, if young white men are angry at the Republican Party and Trump, might the Republican Party and Trump bear some blame for that or is it all the fault of “conspiracism” and “anti Semitism”? Is it possible that you might have gotten the affordability issue totally wrong and actually young men are indeed getting screwed by this economy and are holding their political leaders accountable for it? At what point do you guys engage in some of the self reflection that you are encouraging in others?

Nah, you can disappear forever, though

Yup. Tariffs are a much more complicated topic than most people think.
He’s right. And in two years that’s going to be ridiculously obvious.

💯 agree. The explanation was never the problem. The army of so-called conservatives bashing Trump, his administration, and his policies for the last 1.5 years is what divided the party and lost this election.
I don't understand why people all believe this nonsense that the Iran War was never properly explained to people. "Iran will never have a nuclear weapon" is abundantly clear. Did people forget what nuclear weapons are or something? Terrorist theocracies that chant death?

President Trump was HONEST with the American people from day one of the Iran war. He came out the night of, told us why. He told us it would affect gas prices. He was honest about the decision. Contrast that with Democrats who brought us $5 gasoline and 12% inflation and lied about it for 4 years. "It's transitory" "it's cause of Putin" "Covid did it" By the end of his term gas prices will be under $2.00 because of the 100 million barrels of oil he secured from Venezuela. Plus the energy production and off shore drilling. Hate Trump or not at least he was freaking honest. That's worth something. A lot of people got duped. They will have buyer’s remorse come week one of the new Congress when they find out Democrats don't care about prices. They never have.

It really is that simple, says the guy who lamented that we turned around a vote of illegal immigrants instead of blowing them out of the water like we did the narco-terrorists; says the guy who wants to retcon the American experiment as a White ethno-state. Fool 1/
It really is that simple Ethnic hatred is wrong Realizing the majority of people from a given country are incompatible with your way of life and restricting their access to your country is a basic necessity for survival

And no, this doesn't mean we need unlimited immigration or welcoming everybody no matter what; it does mean we need to enforce assimilation on the limited amount of people we bring in. But pop quiz, what demographic & ethnicity, enacted mass immigration w/o assimilation? 🤔 2/
6
It's almost as if Mauron doesn't realize the reason they don't vote for us is because we stopped requiring assimilation, gave them all sorts of government benefits, and yes, instituted mass instead of targeted immigration. And which Demographic did all that I wonder? Hmmmmm.
DEMOGRAPHICS MATTER @AuronMacintyre: "We have to have a hard discussion about the fact the literally no ethnic minority overwhelmingly votes Republican. Why import people you know are going to vote against you?"

If JD Vance thinks that Republicans lost because of the Iran War, then he should explain the administration's incompetence in securing the Strait of Hormuz because that's where the actual political damage came from: gas prices JD was in all the meetings...did he make this point? Or did they start a war without planning for this? And when they recognized the problem, what was JD's solution? Ceasefires and MOUs that Iran used to buy time, while the Strait stayed a problem and gas prices stayed high. You can't blame the war for the loss when the administration you're part of never fixed the one thing that made voters feel it
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up. So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us." Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026. There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true. But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change our relationship to Israel Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.) In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you. The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

I still maintain Iran didn't *cause* the oil and gas prices, but it was sure used as an excuse to jack them and never lower them.
Almost like oil price was being manipulated to affect the election…

Midterms tldr imo 1. Iran War itself was not the issue; messaging, listening to the doomers & pursuing peace instead of finishing the job caused a lot of this. 2. The GOP Senate did nothing legislatively & didn't fight - not helpful. 3. Trump refuses to just ignore the courts.

💯
Last night is exactly why no President has dealt with Iran before now We don't reward Presidents for acting in the best long-term interest of the country We reward them for avoiding difficult decisions if it means we don't have to make any sacrifices during any given 2yr period

Yeah, I highly doubt he'd consider firing Rubio 😂 If he did, I would be legitimately shocked.
