Check out this masterful @EricaLG article on our clients Tiffany and Nel, and many other Black women that our lawsuit alleges Walden recruited into a discriminatory and deceptive for profit college scheme that ruined their financial lives.

We just brought a class action against the Trump Administration for refusing to grant closed school loan discharges to thousands of eligible students.
Our lead plaintiff Kendrick Gaussoin enrolled at the Brooks Institute with dreams of being a photographer but was left with tens of thousands of dollars of debt and no degree.
Kendrick is not alone. Many thousands of student loan borrowers are entitled to closed school discharges under a 2025 Decision, but have not received them. Check out more from @NPRCoryTurner:

Their school closed. Legally, these students are entitled to student loan forgiveness. But now the Trump administration is refusing to do so.
This is cruel, unnecessary, and illegal. The Trump administration must reverse course and grant these students the relief they are owed.
Really proud of @tysonbrody! Maybe the best headline ever.
Kansas was supposed to be easy for Republicans. Then Tyson Brody, an opposition researcher, moved back home.
Could his research in the state get a Democrat elected to the Senate for the first time in 94 years?

The Trump administration just withdrew its appeal of the June 30 ruling striking down the unlawful PSLF rule, which would have let the Department of Education strip eligibility of employees at organizations the administration disagrees with.

Student Defense President @AaronSAment recently spoke with @sarahbutro at @hechingerreport about the risks of universities lending their names to outsourced programs without meaningful oversight.
A new investigation focuses on IronCircle, a for-profit company partnering with universities to offer cybersecurity bootcamps. But when the program abruptly shut down in June, students were left with broken promises of job prospects and little recourse.
“When you’re signing up for education offered by an established, reputable university, you’re typically not trying to enroll in a for-profit boot camp dressed up in wrapping paper.” - @AaronSAment

Today, Student Defense released a new brief urging states to use text messaging to help students and families access SNAP benefits.
“College students should not go hungry or risk losing SNAP benefits because they missed an interview or forgot to submit a document in a complicated, bureaucratic process. States have a responsibility to ensure eligible students and families can access food assistance.” - Laura Bart, Student Defense Legal Fellow

Dembo to camera:
"I'm Zach Dembo and this is my opponent. OK, you got me. That's a cardboard cutout of Matt Bevin. But, Ralph Alvarado is basically the same guy"
"He was Bevin's running mate, backed his attacks and seniors, Medicaid and kept silent while Bevin pardoned hundreds of criminals, including a child rapist"

"I think reasonable people can disagree as to whether the Biden rule or the Trump rule is better all things considered, but fundamentally, they’re not that different, and the main problem is that neither quite goes far enough." - AMEN
Trump new student loan rule is weaker in some ways than the Biden rule it’s replacing, but tougher in others.
Either way, art history majors are safe.

Replying to @RepBonamici
@RepBonamici joined Student Defense on Capitol Hill for the formal release of our new report, “Students at Stake: Risks of AI Deployment in Higher Education.”
She emphasized the need for a student-centered approach to AI policies, saying, “If we're going to support AI, it's going to have to be responsible. We have to prepare institutions of higher education to leverage AI to create opportunities, not widen gaps.”

At Student Defense’s recent event on AI in higher education, @AndyKimNJ emphasized the importance of establishing safeguards as AI continues to evolve:
“Technology and innovation must move forward, but moving forward recklessly without sensible controls is a recipe for chaos. It risks leaving students behind and losing the transparency, accountability, and privacy so valued within the higher education space.”

UPDATE: The Trump Administration just filed a notice of appeal to the D.C. Circuit.
Looking forward to another ruling that the Trump PSLF Rule is illegal!
And that the government must uphold its promise to teachers, first responders, members of our armed forces and countless more public servants.
Last week, a federal court struck down the Department of Education's rule restricting eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
We’re thrilled that the court ruled that the Department of Education must follow through on the bipartisan promise of loan forgiveness for the millions of teachers, military personnel and other public servants who have dedicated their lives to making our country a better place.
We're proud to have brought this case with @Public_Citizen on behalf of @Kennedy_HRC, @immcouncil, @Door_NYC, and @LULAC to protect the millions of public servants who rely on PSLF.

In a new article from @CollegeInvestin, @rrobfarrington featured Student Defense’s newest report, which revealed that many colleges and universities lack AI policies in admissions offices.
As he put it, “The double standard is hard to miss. Colleges warn applicants about using AI on essays, yet most can't produce a single rule governing their own use of the same technology.”
Student Defense is now calling on higher ed institutions to implement clear policies governing the use of AI by their admissions offices and train staff on those policies..
