Two common soil and water bacteria just wiped out 100% of established human tumors in mice, including colorectal, ovarian, and pancreatic cancers.
A new study in Nature Biomedical Engineering from researchers at Japan’s Advanced Institute of Science and Technology shows that a natural bacterial duo called AUN completely eradicated tumors after just two intravenous doses.
No genetic engineering was involved, and the effect did not rely on the immune system.
At the right doses, researchers saw no observable systemic toxicity.
The combination pairs two naturally occurring species that play complementary roles:
• A-gyo (Proteus mirabilis): A tumor-resident bacterium that invades cancer tissue, disrupts tumor blood vessels through selective thrombosis and vascular collapse, proliferates inside the tumor, and triggers massive necrosis and cancer-cell death. Once inside the tumor it even changes shape, filamenting to penetrate deeper.
• UN-gyo (Rhodopseudomonas palustris): A photosynthetic bacterium found in soil, water, and rice paddies that acts as a regulator. It keeps A-gyo in check outside the tumor to limit potential toxicity while helping it become more effective and targeted once it reaches cancer tissue.
They work in a precise natural ratio of about 3% A-gyo to 97% UN-gyo.
Inside the tumor that ratio flips dramatically toward roughly 99% A-gyo, concentrating the destructive power where it is needed.
In mouse models of human cancers the results were complete elimination across the board:
• Colorectal cancer: 100% tumor elimination
• Ovarian cancer: 100% tumor elimination
• Pancreatic cancer: 100% tumor elimination
The approach worked even in severely immunocompromised animals.
Long-term checks up to 150 days later showed no apparent damage to major organs and no cytokine release syndrome at the therapeutic doses tested.
This drug-free, immune-independent approach challenges the usual reliance on chemotherapy, radiation, or immunotherapy.
The bacteria selectively accumulate and act inside tumors, starving them of blood supply and directly killing cancer cells, forming a self-regulating system achieved without genetic modification.
That said, this remains preclinical animal research only.
Human safety, optimal dosing, and real-world efficacy have not been established.
Excessive doses or the wrong bacterial ratio caused fatal reactions in mice, so the precise balance and dosing regimen are essential.
Cancer remains deadly, and translating mouse results to people is notoriously difficult.

A few years ago, Idaho became one of the first states in the nation to ban ranked-choice voting. We did it because the practice is a scam that takes away power from the grassroots to decide who their candidates are and delivers victories to Democrats, even when they don’t command anywhere near a majority of votes. Congress should ban ranked-choice voting in federal elections and every Red State in America needs to ban it, too.

It’s great (and exasperating) that after an entire year of Republicans pointing out sketchy and fraudulent behavior that the Governor finally wants to acknowledge it, but only after insisting that there wasn’t any fraud to begin with, and defaming those who would point it out.
I welcome any real attempts to combat fraud, but it’s pervasive across state government precisely because we have sloppy policy, weak financial controls, and no accountability. The people in charge of the legislature have shown time and again that they will not take it seriously. There’s lawmakers right now and in the past enriching themselves, their nonprofits, and businesses with taxpayer money.
I suppose this effort is a positive first step in the right direction, although I am skeptical that these efforts are even close to enough. This announcement only really captures one specific area of fraud prevention. It’s a large sounding drop in the bucket.
This sentiment should be applied to every program and state agency. Audit it all and apply zero based budgets so taxpayers stop getting ripped off.

I signed an executive order creating the state's first Chief Fraud Prevention Officer and a statewide fraud prevention workgroup to unify and expand our existing fraud prevention efforts.
I will also propose legislation expanding the current Medicaid False Claims Act to cover all false claims against Washington state. False claims include things like overcharging the government or submitting false grant applications. This new law will help hold violators accountable.
Washington state takes fraud seriously. As we continue to face challenging state budgets and devastating cuts from the federal government, it is more important than ever to protect every dollar.
