I asked East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust whether the trust had nominated this male nurse for a women's healthcare award. I also asked whether this man uses female toilets and changing rooms. And/or provides 'same sex' care to women who request it. The response provided was: We have not formally nominated any member of staff for these awards from the Trust, nor do we have any affiliation to them. Catherine Morgan, Chief Nurse for East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust said: "We have male and female staff throughout healthcare who routinely provide intimate care and examinations as part of their work. In line with national guidance, where patients request care from a woman, we would not provide a member of staff who did not align with that biological sex."
🚨 BREAKING: A male NHS nurse says he’s received four nominations for awards that celebrate women working in healthcare - including ‘Women’s Champion of the Year’. Jia Palis Amada said being “embraced as a woman” was already an award in itself. The awards are organised by emap - in association with Nursing Times. Helen Joyce of Sex Matters called the nominations “deeply insulting” to women. My latest for [Un]Captured. Link below 👇

Male nurse nominated for women’s healthcare awards. Guess who is behind the awards? The @NursingTimes - which appears to have long forgotten what a woman is. So much so, when this man was nominated for an award under his male birth name name - Jaypee - his nomination was reported using female pronouns 🤡

Female nurses are so lucky to have a man to show them how to be the best woman.

Why do they have to have the women's awards? The profession is female dominated and they just have to find a male to go into the female category. Reeks of misogyny @ESNEFT

This is the NHS making crystal clear their contempt for women like the Darlington nurses and Sandie Peggie.

What is the point of celebrating the contribution women make in nursing if you @JiaPalisAmada, a man, can be nominated? What exactly is the point? That men make better women? @Team_ESNEFT

These policies are still in place in East Suffolk & North Essex NHS Foundation Trust nitter.cf/SEENinHealth/status/20…
❗East Suffolk & North Essex NHS Foundation Trust @ESNEFT This statement appears in your Delivering Same Sex Accommodation policy (Appendix B): “Trans people should be accommodated according to their presentation… including toilet and bathing facilities… Non binary individuals should be allocated to male or female wards according to their choice… Gender variant children should be accorded the same respect for their self defined gender as trans adults, regardless of genital sex.” ⚠️ If still in force, this policy is unlawful. The Equality Act 2010 protects biological sex — confirmed by the UK Supreme Court in the For Women Scotland judgment. Policies permitting access to single sex accommodation based on gender identity, presentation, or self definition constitute unlawful discrimination and harassment. #TheLawIsTheLaw ⚖️ Is this policy still in use? To ensure lawful compliance and avoid staff or patients being misled, please confirm whether: 📄The written policy has been formally withdrawn and updated 🗂️Any other policies, guidance, or local procedures allowing access to single sex spaces based on gender identity or presentation have been removed or corrected 📢Staff have been explicitly informed that the previous guidance was unlawful 🎓Training materials have been corrected 🏥Clear communications have been issued to staff and patients @ESNEFT_LGBTQ @team_ESNEFT @kateRead_EOE @ESNEFT_HR @anne_rutland @amandapdavey @HWB_ESNEFT @NHScommsChris @angela_tillett @EXPESNEFT

📢 CALL TO ACTION. NHS ENGLAND MUST ANSWER FOR ITS FAILURES. MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD. Following today’s publication of its single-sex guidance, you can submit a question directly to the NHS England Board. This is your opportunity to demand answers about women’s rights, unlawful policies and the treatment of staff who spoke out. 📅 Next Board meeting: 27 November 2026 ✉️ Submit a question (up to 100 words) to [email protected] by 12 noon on 17 November. Ask them: ▪️ What are the deadlines for implementation? ▪️ How will NHS trusts be held accountable for compliance? ▪️ Will data collection reflect biological sex? ▪️ Will the NHS restore accurate language for women and stop calling women “people with a cervix”? ▪️ Will pregnant women no longer be asked how they identify? Will the NHS stop asking men if they could be pregnant? ▪️ Will staff be free to raise concerns about single-sex spaces without bullying or punishment? ▪️ Will staff and patients who suffered discrimination and harm receive an apology? ▪️ Who will be held accountable for years of unlawful policies and the bullying of staff who dared to speak out? Publication is not implementation. Guidance is not accountability. NHS England must not be allowed to quietly move on without answering for its failures. ✊ Submit your question. Demand answers. Demand action. Demand accountability. 📺 Watch the Board meeting live: england.nhs.uk/livestreams/

“The law is the law.” Yes @karinsmyth, it is. And yes, it is unacceptable for an NHS Trust not to implement lawful policies. But here we are. Do @DHSCgovuk and @NHSEngland not think they have responsibility for an NHS where this is still happening? Newsflash, THEY DO! Women working in the NHS are still having to spend huge amounts of their own time and energy, at huge personal cost, fighting for their rights to single-sex spaces, not just for themselves but for their colleagues and patients. Meanwhile NHS organisations are spending substantial amounts of taxpayers’ money on the legal battles that follow. The @DarlingtonUnion nurses asked a perfectly reasonable question: should challenging Trusts that aren't following the law really be left to frontline nurses rather than government? It shouldn't. These women have already done more than enough. How much longer are @DHSCgovuk and @NHSEngland going to leave women to sort this out themselves? But as always - A big thank you to the @DarlingtonUnion See the full article below.

There should be no politics or activists in the nhs & no lanyards bar the nhs one.
This should concern every public-sector employer, including the NHS. Staff should not arrive at work to find themselves pressured to endorse a contested political or ideological position. Public services are there to serve the public, not to provide a campaigning platform for employees. There need to be much firmer boundaries. Ideological campaigning has no place in the workplace, particularly in politically impartial public services.

Shame on @Team_ESNEFT
This article will feel painfully familiar to many NHS staff. For years we have heard from people who feel they must carefully choose their words at work, stay silent in meetings or avoid raising perfectly reasonable questions about sex, language, privacy and single-sex facilities because they are worried about how that might be perceived. That isn’t healthy for the NHS. Staff should be able to say that sex matters in healthcare, use ordinary factual descriptive words such as woman, mother and breastfeeding, and raise concerns about policies affecting patients and colleagues without being frightened that doing so will damage their career. Sex matters in healthcare. Women need to be visible in healthcare, and staff should be able to talk openly about dignity, privacy and single-sex provision. The uncomfortable truth is that nothing has changed, despite Supreme Court judgements and successful tribunals. Policies remain unlawful, single-sex provision is not upheld, there is zero accountability from senior leadership and discussions predominantly centre one group over all others, especially women. Many staff still feel it is safer to stay quiet than to question what is happening around them. This culture has developed over years. Ordinary language and legitimate questions about sex, privacy and dignity should never have become difficult or frightening to voice in the NHS. We need NHS leaders to recognise that this is happening and, importantly, to start listening to the staff who have been trying to raise these concerns.

Gender ideology is an illiberal, backwards way of thinking that I make no apologies for opposing. Heres a bit of my explanation as to why.

Not too long ago, stating that biological sex was real was a career-ending act of bravery. Kathleen Stock was hounded out of her university job. Maya Forstater had to take her former employer to a landmark tribunal. Kemi Badenoch and Rosie Duffield were told they were on the wrong side of history. Our public bodies, charities, political figures, and sections of the media all lined up to condemn these women as bigots. That establishment was wrong. The Supreme Court settled it beyond doubt: when the Equality Act says woman, it means a biological woman. Every woman who was targeted for saying that sex means biological sex has since been vindicated. An apology is owed to each and every one of them, although I won’t hold my breath. The EHRC's Code of Practice, which took effect this week, provides clear guidance to organisations on how single-sex spaces and services, like changing rooms, should operate on the basis of biological sex. This is hugely welcome, particularly for the countless women and girls who have been denied their legal rights for so long. It is a tribute to the tireless campaigners who fought for years to get here, despite the Labour Government’s delays and attempts to water it down. However, we should be clear that the Code does not change the law. All the Code does is provide guidance on how to follow the law. Those who try to block the Code will not block the law that sits behind it. The Green, Lib Dem and Labour MPs who are pretending otherwise should know better. Yet more than a year after the Supreme Court ruling, compliance is still falling short and there has been no accountability for the many institutions who have put women at risk of harm because they misunderstood the law. Take the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Even after the ruling, they continued disciplinary investigations against the Darlington Nurses, who did nothing more than ask for single-sex changing rooms. They have not issued an apology for getting things so badly wrong. Then there's NHS England, which has still not updated guidance that allows men to be placed on female hospital wards simply because they identify as women. That policy is unlawful, yet it remains in force today - putting the safety, privacy and dignity of female patients at risk. Things are no better in the prison system, where violent male inmates are still being housed in women’s prisons, where they share communal spaces with vulnerable women. It has been a legal requirement to house male and female prisoners separately since 1823, but apparently that doesn’t apply if the man says he is a woman. For too long our public institutions treated radical gender ideology as if it were gospel and treated women's rights as something to be tossed aside in the face of this new religion. The Code of Practice is an important tool in reversing the spread of that ideology, but alone it is not enough. Bridget Phillipson needs to get a grip and hold government bodies to account if they refuse to uphold the law. Our institutions must establish why they were so vulnerable to being misled and how they will prevent the next faddish ideology that comes along from taking root. We need institutions that we can trust, not ones that are so quick to abandon common sense and the law. That is the least that women and the wider public deserve.

NHS trust tells trans staff they can use women’s toilets. It cost NHS Fife a fortune in tax payers money to be made to follow the law. Why aren’t heads of trusts being sacked for opening their trusts up to legal action, potentially costing the tax payer? telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/08…

New guidance on single-sex spaces comes into force. "Trans-rights campaigners have called the guidance unworkable." Unworkable? The law that's existed for decades, that's worked for decades & everyone has clearly understood and obeyed for decades? 🤔 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c998…

BREAKING: The Darlington nurses are demanding urgent NHS guidance after publication of the new EHRC Code of Practice on single‑sex spaces. They say NHS Trusts have “no excuses left” for policies allowing men into women’s changing rooms and warn that hundreds of Trusts are still acting unlawfully. The nurses, who won a landmark tribunal ruling in January, supported by the Christian Legal Centre, are calling for immediate national guidance for NHS staff after being promised new rules 'within weeks' by the government in April 2025. They have now written to @YvetteCooperMP asking for an urgent meeting. Speaking to the Times, President of the Darlington Nursing Union, Bethany Hutchison, said: “It cannot be right that responsibility for upholding the law is left to individual women who must risk their careers, reputations, livelihoods and wellbeing by challenging powerful public institutions.” She said there must be “national leadership, clear direction and meaningful enforcement, rather than leaving ordinary women to uphold the law one costly case at a time” thetimes.com/uk/politics/art… See more with @CConcern Including the questions the nurses have put to the government over night 👇🏻 christianconcern.com/ccpress…
