I play a shaman for the same reasons, except I'm not a pushover and don't need stealth lol. I tank, I dps (ranged or melee, but mostly melee), and I heal. And I can even slap almost anyone once and delete them from reality. 🤣 In a 1v1, I'll defeat just about any class/spec. The only classes that I struggle against are hunters (viper sting) and warlocks (only if they have death coil available), both of which I can 1 shot occasionally. To summarize: Shaman is the master class.
