The scene was lit only by a single match.
It was shot around the time Fincher was making The Social Network, and it still looks better than most digital films today.

A24’s #DeathOfAUnicorn is my favorite film I’ve watched so far in 2025. It’s the perfect horror-comedy: Fantastic ensemble cast, clever writing, awesome, gory kills, a cool mythology, strong dad jokes and just a damn good time from start to finish.
Will Poulter steals many scenes as an out-of-his-mind Nepo baby, and Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega are a strong father-daughter duo who keep the film grounded and provide its emotional backbone. Anthony Carrigan, Richard E. Grant, Téa Leoni… everyone brings it. Also, the Unicorn rocks. Truly adore this one.
