Obama: "While we're alienating key allies like Canada, the White House is bending the knee to Vladimir Putin of Russia, and selling out Ukrainians who are fighting for their freedom and democracy."

As a Jew who cares deeply about peace between Israelis and Palestinians, I am hugely grateful to Israel's Arab citizens. If not for record high Arab voting, Netanyahu's fascist bloc would have won another majority. A reminder of the value that diversity brings to democracy.

Israeli Jews have moved sharply to the right due to demographics, security concerns and radicalisation. But thanks to high Arab voting, the electoral impact has been diluted. Netanyahu cannot rule with only extremists. I hope Arab Israelis continue to vote. Peace requires it.

Sadly, it may be tough to maintain high Arab voting. A unity govt may emerge where Eisenkot joins Netanyahu - and boots out ultra-orthodox or fascist parties. A less extreme govt. But that, with Arab govt exclusion, may not be enough to motivate continued high Arab voting rates.

Someone needs to scream "Bolsonaro" from now on whenever Trump claims "No South American criminals have crossed the border during my presidency."

What you need to know about Israeli election 👇 Majority of Israelis voted for non-Netanyahu gov parties Not knockout blow to Netanyahu but very hard to remain PM Big drop in Netanyahu block. Fall of 68 to 50-55 Record Arab turnout Likely: Eisenkot gov backed by Arab parties

Netanyahu has dug in deep to remain PM. He goes to jail if he doesn't. He's ruled Likud as an authoritarian personality cult & engaged in foreign policy designed to prologue national emergency to delay his trial. Eisenkot govt must survive long enough for his trial to conclude.

The Bennett/Lapid govt attempted 2021-2022. But Netanyahu remained Likud leader and collapsed the govt early by convincing a coalition MK to join Likud. But that govt only had 61/120 MKs so was super fragile. Eisenkot bloc + Arab parties may be larger and hopefully more stable.

Turnout in Israel is currently 44.9% — the highest recorded at 2pm in Israeli history. I'm optimistic this means Netanyahu's end. Polls won't have reflected how many will decide on the day that they can't vote for a man who presided over the biggest slaughter of Jews since WW2.

Israeli turnout now at 66.7% as of 6pm — up 9% on 2022 and the highest ever recorded in Israeli history. There are still four hours left of voting from 6pm.

Israeli turnout now at 74.3% as of 8pm — up 8% on 2022 and the second highest ever recorded in Israeli history. There are still two hours left of voting from this time.

You cannot retort every accusation against Israel with "We're the Middle East's only democracy" and then demonise 21% of the electorate for voting because they're Arabs. Netanyahu is an self-preserving authoritarian. Like Trump, there's nothing he won't trade for self-interest.

If Netanyahu is crushed today, don't be surprised if he eventually flees to the United States. He needs the office to stay out of jail. That's what this is all about.

Perhaps Netanyahu and Flávio Bolsonaro can share a Florida condo together.

Lula victory speech: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. We cannot have monstrously huge corporations earning millions & billions, paying no taxes to this country & trying to steer this country's election results."

To understand how Lula supporters are feeling right now, imagine Trump went to jail for his Jan 6 insurrection and then Biden/Harris defeated Don Jr in 2024.
