Recent reports of racially and religiously aggravated incidents involving Sikhs on public transport and in public spaces have highlighted a serious concern: too many incidents of hate go unreported.

Everytime I see. A Sikh person, the aura is overwhelming.
Canada at its best. I can’t love this enough. Constable Sukhvinder "Suki" Singh Sunger of the Vancouver Police Pipe Band made history as the first turbaned Sikh drum major to lead the march at the 2026 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. 🇨🇦

Gyani Ji campaigned for Sikhs’ right to wear turbans in the workplace. As someone who proudly wears a dastaar (turban) I am truly pleased to see his life, legacy and activism honoured with a blue plaque. His efforts pioneered the way for a fairer, more equal and inclusive society in the UK. We are always stronger when we stand together, united in our differences. We must not forget his legacy. messengernewspapers.co.uk/ne…

Deeply shocked and saddened by the attack on a young Sikh man while he was working in Leeds, UK. During the incident, his dastaar (turban) was forcibly removed, and he suffered multiple injuries. We stand in solidarity with victim and demand justice. Stop #Sikhphobic hate crimes

The video highlights wider attempts to promote community spirit during a tense time. However, reports of hate crimes targeting Sikhs continue, including incidents reported today. Those targeted are being urged to report and document any such incident at sikhhatecrime.org.

I’d like to remind the true ‘patriots’ of this country bashing Sikhism that during the 2nd World War up to half a million Sikhs fought in the British Army. Many died fighting for the future of Britain and never returned from battle. They’re more patriotic than you’ll ever be.

On #BBCBreakfast Labour MP Tan Dhesi accused politicians of using the murder of Henry Nowak to create division with an ill informed debate over the kirpan, the ceremonial blade carried by some Sikhs as an article of faith bbc.co.uk/news/live/c4g81y54…

The Sikh community’s stance on the Henry Nowak case is clear. Jas Singh from @SikhFedUK spoke to BBC Radio to set the record straight: our deepest condolences are with the Nowak family. This was an isolated criminal act. It does not represent Sikhi, the Sikh community, or Sikh values. The weapon used was not a Kirpan, and no religious article or practice protects anyone from criminal accountability. Sikhs have lived peacefully in the UK for over a century, contributing to society and serving with honour. One individual’s actions must not be used to misrepresent an entire faith. #HenryNowak #SikhCommunity #SikhFederationUK #BBCRadio #UKNews #SikhsInBritain #Kirpan

* Digwa family statement * "We are deeply sorry...we would give anything to turn back time" A statement from the Digwa family has been released regarding the tragic murder of Henry Nowak.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Digwa family's statement follows the conviction of Vickrum's mother for assisting an offender by hiding the murder weapon; other family members lied to police denying weapons were involved. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of… judiciary.uk/wp-content/upl…

The entire Sikh community has been "demonised" as one individual has broken the law and been found guilty of murder. The murder weapon was NOT a Kirpan (one of the 5 Ks), it has a different name that does not start with K, but the @CPSUK is refusing to share an image of the murder weapon with @BBCNews @SkyNews @PA @thetimes etc. after the case concluded last Thursday. It was incorrectly described as a Kirpan in court and media reporting. @Dabinderjit @SikhFedUK wrote to @ShabanaMahmood @LabourSJ @Nesil_Caliskan and hope Judge William Mousley KC makes this clear when sentencing on Monday or it will be a massive disservice to the Sikh community. Sensible politicians like @DavidDavisMP @aliciakearns that have made the mistake of calling for restrictions on the Kirpan based on this misinformation should distance themselves from @RupertLowe10 @RobertJenrick @ZiaYusufUK bbc.com/news/articles/ce8pkr…

The community statement clarifies: - the killing was "tragic...madness...unlawful" and "isolated" - the weapon used was "not the normal kirpan" - the prosecution said the case "is not about Sikhism" - the responsibility of Sikhs keeping a kirpan Media inquiries- [email protected]
