Almost everyone I spent time with while rough sleeping, injecting drugs & overdosing multiple times had experienced suffering from childhood trauma to rape or abuse, it's sad that anyone would think punishing people more would help. Compassion, housing, education & employment helps much more than a prison or police cell, I know this to be true its my personal experience.

Unregulated drug toxicity is now the leading cause of death in B.C. for people aged 10 to 59, with more people dying from drug poisoning than from homicide, suicide, accidents and natural disease combined. thetyee.ca/News/2023/07/21/T…

It’s easier to access street drugs than it is to access help. Imagine how many lives we could save if we made harm reduction and recovery treatment as accessible — or more accessible! — than street drugs.

PSA: Sternum rubs do not reverse overdoses. They are a tool to see if someone is alert. Administering a sternum rub for too long/hard incorrectly can harm someone. Pic:

Love to hear this❤️❤️ A high school student told me she’s part of a group of students who go into the DTES to hand out food. “Everyone is so kind and grateful and I love helping them.” Poverty isn’t scary. If you fear people struggling, it says more about you than them.

Everyone knows I support both harm reduction and recovery; I don't know why some people have an issue with this. It's not about which one is "better", it's about which one is better for where the individual is at. I will tell you this much, I care about helping people in any capacity and that is never going to change, no matter what anyone says.

One of my good friends just completed an addiction recovery treatment (private) centre. He came back to Vancouver used & was found dead the next day. The toxicity report was extremely high concentrations of fentanyl. If he would have had access to safer substances he'd be alive💔
Individuals who were previously in recovery are relapsing because of the diverted safer supply hydromorphone flooding into Canadian communities. In some cases, drug dealers aggressive market hydromorphone to former users. We need to reform or abolish safer supply immediately.

“IV opioid consumption will never be normalized, and harm reduction policies do not normalize addiction. These policies only address addiction as the unfortunate phenomenon it is.” Beautiful and important piece ⁦@SFGate⁩ sfgate.com/politics-op-eds/a…

The future of substance use treatment is likely to involve a greater emphasis on individualized, technology-enabled and harm-reduction-focused approaches that help people achieve long-term recovery and wellness. But people are dying right now, we need to address the toxic drugs!

Canada’s response to the war in Ukraine has gone above and beyond the call of duty. They say hard times reveal true friends. And this is what the European Union and Canada are. True friends. nitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1lPKqBykV…
