been thinking about the privacy side of @vangrid_io , because filming real places with your phone can get messy pretty fast one thing that would make me nervous about filming for vangrid is catching random people on camera😂💔 turns out the app already deals with that faces and number plates get blurred in the frame before recording starts and if a capture still has a face you can read in it, it won't be able to upload so you can film a street or a market without worrying about who ended up in the shot. you just film the place and the app takes care of the people part. for something that runs on regular people filming the world around them, i think that matters a lot. do y'all actually understand what a DAgger dataset is? I mentioned that @axisrobotics would be dropping it soon here's the deal. usually, data collection for robotics works by recording someone doing a task cleanly from start to finish you watch a person pick up an object and place it somewhere and that whole clean run becomes training data. the model learns by copying that clean sequence the problem is that a model trained purely on clean demos never sees what happens when it messes up because nobody records mistakes on purpose 🤷🏽 DAgger (Dataset Aggregation) on the other hand, records the model itself attempting the task. instead of just letting it run until it fails completely, a human steps in the moment it starts drifting off course or making a wrong move. that correction gets logged as new data showing exactly how to recover from that specific mistake. this matters because real world deployment is full of situations a clean demo never prepares a model for. an object slips slightly, a grip angle is off, lighting throws the sensor reading, whatever it is. a model that's only ever seen perfect demonstrations has no idea what to do when things go sideways. a model trained with DAgger data has actually seen correction happen at the exact point of failure which teaches it how to recover instead of just how to perform when everything goes right. for axis this fits directly into how the whole system is built. it's not a one time data dump, it's a closed loop where the model fails, gets corrected and that correction feeds back into training. the DAgger dataset dropping in november is basically axis formalizing that failure correction loop into its own dedicated dataset so when that dataset drops it's not just another pile of trajectories added to the count. it's specifically built around the moments models get things wrong which is honestly the hardest and most valuable kind of data to collect at scale🔥

Asides the fact that @axisrobotics raised $12M, on the technical side, they are pulling crazy numbers. they're running over 100k active contributors right now with about 10k daily. that gap between total and daily is normal for any platform like this but what's worth noting is the output those daily users are producing. axis says its network generates over 1200 hours of simulation data and more than 20000 hours of real world data every single month. that's real production volume for a data pipeline this early. even wilder, they collected 1 million high fidelity trajectories in just 8 weeks. compare that to a typical robotics lab where a single trajectory might take a technician an entire session to capture properly and you start to see why the browser based crowd model actually makes sense. on the model side they benchmarked their dataset against robocasa using π0.5 and came out ahead by a meaningful margin. might sound like technical jargon but I'm sure people who are into the robotic space would get it 😂 on the commercial side axis isn't just talking to random buyers either. they're already supplying custom data packages to companies like geely auto, lotus cars, booster robotics and agibot. the team behind it also isn't random. researchers pulled from berkeley, cmu and ucla, plus founders who've previously scaled consumer products past 30 million users. that consumer scaling background probably explains why the contributor side feels this smooth compared to a lot of clunky data labeling platforms. there's also a sim dataset v2 coming in september and a dagger dataset planned for november. so the numbers above aren't even the final form of what they're building. @KaitoAI
