Forced recruitment violates people’s freedom of choice and can expose them to different forms of harm. Understanding the circumstances behind recruitment is an important step to protecting the rights of those affected.

Across Sudan and along its borders, human trafficking rose dramatically under the cover of conflict.
The UNTOC framework and the Palermo Protocol must not remain theoretical while survivors are denied redress.

In Sudan, the ongoing armed conflict has been accompanied by restrictions on freedom of expression, attacks on journalists and media outlets, and forms of human trafficking.

There can be no peace in Sudan without accountability.
The Sudanese people demand truth, justice, and lasting peace.

Enforced disappearance does not end with the disappearance of a person. Behind every case is a real person, a family and a community whose suffering continues for as long as their fate remains unknown.

Not every missing person is forcibly disappeared. In Sudan, the disappeared and their families face challenges that hinder access to the truth.

On September 25, 2026, the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, alongside the Global Accountability Network, NRF South African Research Chair in International Law, Public International Law and Policy Group, African Center for Justice and Peace Studies, Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa, and American Society of International Law, hosted a roundtable discussion on the humanitarian response to the crisis in Sudan.
Panelists highlighted the urgent challenges facing aid workers, including funding shortfalls, access restrictions, and the need for greater international support. They also emphasized the vital role of local actors, particularly Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) and women-led organizations, in delivering life-saving assistance.
As moderator Mutasim Ali noted:
“We cannot continue to demand more from Sudan's humanitarians while providing them with less protection, less funding, less political support, and less international attention.”

We are pleased to invite you to join the third roundtable on Sudan, organized by the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights (RWCHR), Global Accountability Network, NRF South African Research Chair in International Law, Public International Law and Policy Group (PILPG), African Center for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS), Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA Network), and American Society of International Law (ASIL).
Together, we will examine the immediate threats facing frontline aid workers, challenges impeding aid delivery, and practical strategies to safeguard #humanitarian operations in #Sudan.
This roundtable will bring together key stakeholders to confront these operational threats, identify critical protection gaps, and forge actionable strategies to safeguard aid workers on the ground.
As the war in Sudan drags on through its fourth year, this expert roundtable will look at:
1. Why Sudan’s massive humanitarian crisis continues to be overlooked and underfunded globally;
2. How aid agencies can balance maintaining access to populations with reporting human rights violations;
3. What Sudan's humanitarian aid will look like without immediate, significant intervention, and what can be done. We hope you can join us.
