August 23, 2026, marks the 150th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6, an agreement between First Nations and the Crown that continues to shape relationships across what is now Saskatchewan, Alberta, and parts of Manitoba. Communities will gather at Fort Carlton Provincial Historic Park, where Treaty 6 was first negotiated and signed in 1876, to recognize this significant anniversary through cultural programming, performances, treaty education, and community events. As part of the commemoration, Métis artist and Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund Ambassador @MichelleJoly alongside Peter Cameron and lyricist Laurie Shaw-Greyeyes of @gen7canada released the song “1876” on July 31.
