As someone deeply passionate about teaching and communicating science, I highly enjoyed organizing a 3-day Science Communication Workshop @iiserbhopal where the participants gained hands-on experience in public speaking, science art & photography, creative and technical writing.
In a Durga Puja pandal it is not surprising to see a model of the satellite view of Earth, an electronic chip, a humanoid robot & engineering tools next to the idol of Goddess Durga. No wonder Bengal has always been the epicentre of both science and spirituality!

Social issues to environmental concerns, sci-fi to modern art, cultural history to contemporary traditions: the Durga Puja in Kolkata (and Bengal) captures them all in the most creative way. I was thrilled to experience Durga Puja in Kolkata after 7 years! #DurgaPuja2026
Thank you Sajal-da for hosting the Membrane Biophysics conference. My students Maneesa and Parvathy hugely benefitted from attending the conference. Also thanks for hosting them in your lab post-conference.
Soft Matter Meet: Membrane Biophysics, held on 12–14 October 2026 at @ShivNadarUniv, concluded successfully. We thank all the participants for their engagement, discussions, and valuable contributions that made the meeting a rewarding scientific experience.

IISER Bhopal Open House 2026, organised under the auspices of the Centre for Science and Society (CS2), concluded on 10 October 2026 with an overwhelming response, welcoming approx. 3,000+ participants, including school and college students, teachers, parents, industry professionals and members of the public.
The event began with an interactive inaugural session, in which Prof. Pradeep K. Burma delivered a Popular Science Talk titled “Two Short Stories, Two Breakthroughs, Millions of Lives Saved” to an audience of predominantly school students.
Visitors then gained first-hand exposure to the Institute’s teaching, research, innovation and outreach activities through live experiments, science demonstrations, research posters, exhibitions, videos and recorded lectures. The event brought together academic departments, Deans’ offices, centres and councils, showcasing work across science, engineering, humanities and economic sciences.
Adding to the excitement, the Open House featured engaging hands-on activities and interactive challenges that kept participants curious and involved throughout the day. Many walked away with exciting prizes, and with memories of science made fun.
We sincerely thank Prof. Burma for gracing the occasion. Our heartfelt thanks also go to all the academic departments, Deans’ offices, centres and councils, along with our faculty members, student volunteers, staff and all the participants, for their enthusiasm and support in making this event a success.

A landmark study from IISER Bhopal, titled “Petrochronological constraints on Eoarchean subduction: Evidence from the southwest Bastar Craton, India,” and led by Prof. Pritam Nasipuri, has been accepted in the journal Geoscience Frontiers. Dr Kaushik Satpathi, the first author of the paper recently graduated from IISER Bhopal and won the Best Thesis Award at the 2026 Convocation.
The study provides evidence that subduction and nascent plate tectonics were operating more than 3.6 billion years ago.
The research identifies a ~3.65-billion-year-old anatectic gneiss, the oldest preserved rock reported from the Indian landmass, and documents ~3.64–3.60-billion-year-old magmatic charnockites, the oldest known magmatic charnockites.
The findings show that subduction and plate tectonics were already operating during the earliest stabilisation of the Earth, unlike on Mars or Venus.
The study brings together geochemistry, phase-equilibria modelling, zircon geochronology and Hf-isotope data to reconstruct the evolution of the Eoarchean crust of the southwest Bastar Craton and provides evidence for early convergent tectonics within a 30–50 km-thick crust" to "The study brings together geochemistry, phase-equilibria modelling, zircon geochronology and Hf-isotope data to reconstruct the evolution of the Eoarchean crust of the southwest Bastar Craton and provides evidence for early convergent tectonics within a 30–50 km-thick crust in the Early Earth.
Congratulations to the entire research team on this significant contribution to our understanding of early Earth and the origins of plate tectonics.
